Does fitting risers change the handling of the bike significantly?

If so in what way and is it better?

Andrew.

It wont alter anything apart from your riding position.

I put these on my bike to allow me to sit more upright, as the slight forward lean was agrivating an old injury.
Been perfect ever since.

It doesn't change the handling at all.

What it does do, is affect the way in which you control the bike. It all depends on how how tall you are, how you're built and your riding position. If your position is already perfect, then it will possibly be detrimental. I fitted 1" risers, and they make the bike more "flickable", and give me a more relaxed and comfortable riding position. I'm 6'1".

If you have fitted Verholen risers, do they interfere with the BMW GS tank bag?

I have 35mm risers from Touratech catalogue. Excellent and comfty stuff, handling even better than stock because of better siting-position.

Are the ones from Nippy Normans any good? Especially for a short @rse?

I'm using NN's risers with the large 'set back' - these don't raise the bars much but bring them back towards you.

The result (for me) is a much more relaxed riding position with less tendancy to slide down the seat and less fatigue after long hours in the saddle.

Tank bag still fits. No mods to cables or brake lines. 5 minute job.

NN's price is good and service is spot on.

As another short-@rse I'll echo Telfords comments on NNs offering; more comfortable riding position after fitting & esp. so when stood up on pegs.

I fitted the 25mm Wunderlich ones to mine, huge differance to the riding position, made it so much better and relaxed.

That said, it did some miles to get used to it as it felt a bit like riding a chopper at first!

No differance noticed with the handling at all, so don't worry about that.

Just a thought though, and I think that I am right in saying (?) if yours does not have ABS then you might need to replace the front brake hose for a longer one?

If you have ABS, then its just a case of cutting the first couple of zip ties on either side of the headstock to allow the cables to flex more due to the added height of the handlebars.

risers

You don't need longer lines if you have a non abs bike with 25mm risers, they didn't change it much for me anyway so I took those off and slashed out on a set of Ricky bars. It's the best £213 I have spent,it's a real bummer Ricky has stopped production as they really do improve the handling/feel off the bike.Andy
