I had to sell my 11GS a few months ago because I couldn't stand the agony it was causing my rear. After 40 miles I was in so much agony I had to get off. I tried every type of aftermarket seat going including an air cushion, but they all made no difference. I then bought a Bandit 1200 and it was brilliant for my backside but no where near as good in every other department. I noticed that the major difference to the comfort factor was the way I was positioned on the bike. With the GS I was sitting bolt upright, whereas with the Bandit I am pitched forward so take the weight off the base of my pelvis, which is all that is needed.
Now with this in mind I am wondering if it is possible to create a similar riding position by changing the handlebars on a GS.
Has anyone had to do the same, and if so, what type of bars have they used? Does anyone know of a dealer that might be able to help me in this matter? Anywhere in the area, say within a 100 miles of Hertford is obtainable? If any of you have any ideas I would be most grateful. I can then get back the best bike I have ever ridden.email or call me or text. Hope to hear from you soon.

Just a thought if nippys bar risers lift the bars 1" and bring them back 5/8" if they were to be mounted in reverse ie lift 1" but take them forward 5/8" . The other way would be rockster bars. Anyone tried either?

Sounds like you need a set of clipons for the GS......might look a bit of a knob though:P

I put R1150R bars on my R1150GS. They are narrower and dont have such a pronounced rearward sweep. As a result, the riding position was angled slightly more forward. Not as much as a Bandit but quite comfy nontheless.

Numerous threads on here about this conversion - try a search on "r1150r handlebars"

Or sit on the pillion seat :D

When I changed over to alloy wheels, the drop from 19" to 17" front wheel made the bike pitch further forwards & I noticed that it was more comfortable over long distances. It also makes the steering quicker which helps in the handling dept as a bonus.

HTH,

I have Ricky Bars and a bill mayer saddle - both are spectacular improvements.
