Hard drive nearly full

I started off with 20 gigs, then had an extra 40 put in and now there are about five gigs free from the sixty. I think that both places/sockets/stations/whatever have been taken up so what can be done to further increase my gigs? I don't think there is room for yet another hard drive so is there another option perhaps?

It worries me that if I get a bigger one to replace the existing one(s) there may be problems transferring all my existing stuff to the new one, I'd hate to lose it all.

Don't bother with one at that price, I have a Mybook 500 gig from Amazon for £75.

if you have two HDD drives already, clone the C drive onto a replacement, bigger internal drive (£50ish).

bit more frigging about, but a cheaper option.

edit: just seen the £75 price of mikeP's suggestion. do that, it literally just plugs in, no drivers needed.

I am no computer boffin, I found this so simple to use. It appears in 'my computer' as F Drive on my PC. I bought this because of all the video editing I was doing. All I did was change the directory to F/: for all the memory hungry stuff like the movie software. In the first place I just shifted the files there.

For people like Cookie, Clive, Judge (& Steptoe, the acknowledged IT Guru ) and co. who know what they are doing and can partition hard-drives or know how to add stuff inside the box, there are more elegant solutions.

For a 'puter numpty like me, this is the answer. As I'm happy with my ancient PC, all I intend is to add another Mybook when or if I need more memory.

I don't usually say this but try PC World, they have had some good deals recently. I have a 250gb that's full so went for a Seagate Free agent Pro 750GB that they had in store for £90 instead of £150. How could I resist.

Surf before you buy

If you are going to PC World, check out their web site first. I bought a 250gb WD Passport USB drive. £129.99 in the shop, £84 on line. BUT!!!!!!!!! I ordered on line, picked up from the shop on the way home and paid the on-line price. Excellent ! and so is the Passport. Just slips into the pocket and has synchronisation and encryption. Just the job.
