Interesting, thanksEdit: Balancing the throttle bodies and correctly setting the TPS voltage helps smooth things out too. Although the received wisdom is that the throttle bodies should never be touched and that a bench flow-meter is required to adjust the balance, I believe that BMW (followed by Haynes and Clymer) adopted that advice to prevent owners twiddling with things and buggering it all up. With a decent mercury manometer I've got good results.
