Harmonic vibration in 3rd gear (BMW R1250GS, ESA High or Low)

Hello everyone,


I’d like to ask if anyone has experienced a similar issue on the R1250GS.

My GS is 2023 with14k

In 3rd gear, around 2,000–2,500 rpm, I get a cyclic / harmonic vibration or pulsing sound. i can feel it in my foot,
The phenomenon becomes much stronger when the ESA is set to High (suspension raised),
It disappears completely if I pull the clutch lever (even while coasting at the same speed).
It is definitely not related to wheels or tires – the sensation is independent of road surface or tire rotation.
In higher or lower gears or at different rpm, it’s either absent or much much less noticeable.
imade recently a check for vibrations in the dealer with there special tool and they didn’t find something .

Questions:

Is this resonance considered “normal” for the GS platform?
Has anyone had this checked at the dealer, and did BMW consider it within spec or a fault?

You're riding the bike In too high a gear. You're lugging the motor. Those RPMS are too low.

It's not a Diesel.

I know what you have said about wheels or tyres, but I did have that with mine before I changed tyres (1250GS with low miles). Mine was a cyclic droning sound at about 3.5k in fourth and at partial throttle while pottering along at 45 or so, a variety of road surfaces and it felt like it had to be a mechanical issue with the drive train. Similarly, the dealership claimed to not know what I was talking about and found nothing wrong with the bike.

Changing the factory fit Bridgestone A41 for CTA3 and it went immediately, never to return. On reflection while I'm convinved the change of tyre fixed it for me, whether that was down to the tyre itself or the balancing I don't know.

UPDATE:
My weight is 80kilos , adding a passenger around 50kilos the vibration is gone !
I assume that the different angle of the cardan shaft make it aligned so it’s 100% the shaft

A simple fix, and probably no charge for the new shaft

The mechanic say that there’s no issue ,
And I cannot change his mind , he said if the test with the special tool returns no vibration I can’t change the shaft. So I will live with it never mind

Have you tried changing gear yet ?

Or are you still riding it like a Diesel van ?

I can share some stories from my time in main dealers dealing with Warranty complaints such as yours.

The complaints went all the way to Berlin with teams of people looking into it. To the point where us techs had to go on accompanied test rides with data logging equipment.

And it always came down to

PIS-NIB

'Problem in Seat. Not in bike"

It really does sound like you are lugging the motor at low revs. Which obviously translates into vibration.

But yeah. It's always the bikes fault
