For Sale Harry of Harry’s Garage is selling up some of his cars and four vintage bikes.

I prefer the classic look of the original XJS but they do require more work to run.
The original XJ-S was also a thirsty beast. Back in the late 70s my then employer let me drive his and if you put your foot down for any length of time you could see the fuel gauge drop. He reckoned on about 5 mpg at times but fortunately he owned a petrol station. It also leaked like a sieve if you took it out in the rain.

We were at the NEC Classic yesterday, only viwed the auction compound from the outside but there’s a really good mix of cars there and in the dealer area.

There were a good number of cars that only had a few thousand miles from new, and I can’t help thinking they’d be a much better buy than a fugly £50k EV or hybrid with its full nanny state systems.

A couple of very low miles Jaguar XJ’s, 90’s or early 2000’s, were £10k! Now I know there’s running costs but if it lasted 2 years it’s cheaper than the depreciation on any EV, and what a magnificent thing to drive around in. I had an XJR in the 90’s, absolutely lovely thing and a proper fast car.
I went to the auction today... There were a number of low mileage cars that caught my eye but the main one was the GR Yaris with 9 miles on the clock and still with all the delivery protection plastic on.

That was mentioned by a couple of people (Harry Metcalfe may have been one) who said that it was one of the first batch made so doesn't have as many of the 'electronic aids' that a 25 model does.

I wonder what Harry is ‘doing on his house’ which was the initial reason he cited for having to sell his cars. ?

Well, if missus Metcalfe has asked for a new kitchen, then the proceeds from the Lambo would only just about cover the supply of a kitchen from posh and known names.

Names such as Tom Howley, Martin Moore, Devol to name but a few, will be starting at around £70k.
You do need a big house to make these look fitting. Will look crap in a traditional ‘50s 3 bed semi.

Saw that too - I reckon a better buy than the new one that has all the nanny state interventions

The other reality is Harry isn't getting any younger. They probably want to get anything that needs doing done while they still have the motivation and energy.
Nobody wants to enter old age with a to do list on the house if they can help it.

He is undoubtedly a busy man, there's only so many cars he can find time to use and maintain on top running a farm and his media work. Does he need so much cash tied up in cars that have run their course in terms of youtube content.

His son is now running a car sales business too, maybe he is assisting that with a few quid.

Everyone's priorities change with time.

He is quite unique in the fact that unlike a lot of other YoooTooobers, he doesn’t buy and sell projects purely to engage his audience. And yes, he has a LOT of dough tied up in some exquisite vehicles. I remember seeing a film of his some years ago where I’m sure he talked about releasing some equity in his collection via some kind of financial system (not my level of expertise) to pay for the projects he films.
It must get to a point in life where even the richest folks start looking at clearing all their debt.
Some years ago a rich boss of mine got his bank manager from Coutts bank to come in and do a talk about how wealthy people live, and trends they all followed to keep wealthy. One of the things I remember him saying is ALL of his clients never bought their amazing cars and boats outright… all on loans and lease, so ‘their money’ can be invested in stuff of big returns. I’m in no doubt an intelligent man like Harry does the same…but as I mentioned there comes a time in life where everything needs to be ‘sorted out and paid up’
