For Sale Harry of Harry’s Garage is selling up some of his cars and four vintage bikes.

Yeah, I thought that, but on one of his vids he was, as a young man, joining the Evo team as a punter with interesting cars- can remember what it was, but it was a top end car. So he didn’t start Evo, I don’t think, and already had more than one nice car. He also was described as a farmer at that time.
You're confusing Evo with "Performance Car" magazine... As a farmer, he was contributing to Performance Car, before going off and setting up Evo.

...and the vid you're thinking about is the recent one he did in his Espada, on the Nth Yorks Moors.

he may have appeared like a punter but according to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evo_(magazine) he set up the magazine, bringing in the finance from a bank loan secured on his farm. He had minority shareholders who were proper journalists, including those originally working for EMAP until Performance Car was absorbed into Car magazine.
Yes, that's it - it was Performance Car he was with, with that Ghibli. So he probably did start Evo. Good spot.

Yes, I realised that after Wessie's post, and yes, it was that vid (y)

I'd say he's an entrepreneur that farms, more than a farmer. He's said more than once (as has Clarkson) that it would be a struggle without other income streams

I guessed he had inherited the farm but, this 2021 interview suggests entrepreneur is more accurate. Audio or transcript under the player

seems his parents were fashion designers in Liverpool in the 60s. He went to ag college, becoming a grain trader. Then took on a farm tenancy. He started Evo whilst a tenant farmer then bought his own 280 acre farm.

Someone soon, (only a matter of time) will pull out the entire Metcalfe Family Tree and autobiography ….

Yes he's done well for himself, one way or another…. Anyway, who's interested in any of his bikes or cars that are going to be auctioned? Seeing as thats what the thread was started for 😂.
There are bound to be equally wealthy individuals on here, who need to invest, seeing as interest rates are a bit 💩

As I recall, it was that Espada, which is a bit of an oddball, and the XJC, also a bit odd.
I’d have the Jag in a heartbeat, though,

Bikes were, I think, a Z1300, and a Tenere. Not bothered about either of those.

remind me, who started the rabbit hole with a rant about affluent farmers?

Out of interest, where does Harry’s money come from?

Seems he was buying big fast cars when he was young and Evo and others used them group tests, which is how he got into motoring journalism

In the early days he made lots of money buying and selling grain. I remember him saying mobile phones were a game changer for him. He had good contacts and made full use of fluctuating prices.

Lovely man. Great videos. I think I would like his 911, Testarossa or Countach, in that order. The 911 is awesome although I would have to get all of them resprayed. Cannot have red. Mrs Sneldog would key them.

All delightful cars though.

For "obvious" reasons (see other bikes for sale if necessary) - I looked at his KZ1300 which is in the auction , est £6 to £8K , hmmmm - better not to say what I really think about it , if it sells for anything north of £5.5K ... I need a serious upward price review !
In general the cars for sale in the auction seem to have very high estimates given the current marketplace. Time will tell as they say................

Lovely cars, all of them, and from a time when the design came from out of a man's head, and not from out of computers.

You still need to use your head to interpret your design idea into said computer :nenau. Just because it isn’t and actual pencil and paper, doesn’t meant it’s not art or design.

There are plenty of artists that can design and draw beautiful stuff on iPad for example or in CAD software.

That's very true, but these guys were doing it without the benefit of sales data and feedback. Mind you, there was also some right shockers produced in these times to be fair as well.

usually after the fanciful design was modified by the accountant or production engineer that had to make it work within the budget or the laws of physics

His background is set out in an interview he did, with Johnny Smith. He was the first grain merchant with a mobile phone, he formed Evo in weeks to fill the gap that Performance Car suddenly left. As someone said, shrewd guy.

Here you go from the horses mouth ^^

Had to go and find his video of the little Lancia
Not everyones cup of tea for sure - but I think its a fabulous little thing and the V4 sounds wonderful - all whilst not even doing 60 !

from 9:30 on
