I was thinking of getting the current BMW Bluetooth headset as I've already got a System 6 and a mate raves about them. However, I would still like to use my in ear monitors.

Has anyone adapted one of these headsets, and if so, did you have to fit any kind of resistor or other electronicky thing to make it work properly?

I'm happy with the soldering part - but wanted to make sure it would work and was worth it first!

Cheers

I did mine, BMW System 6 helmet. Ultimate Monitors, tapped into the speaker loom. It works ok but has a constant squelch which after a while became very irritating, so have stopped using them. It also for some reason seems to trigger the mic when ever the GPS directions are spoken to me which never happens when the monitors are unplugged.

:D

Thanks guys. I'll see how I get on with my £8 fleabay Bluetooth adaptor (the one that looks like an ipod nano). Tbh, the MP3 sound quality from the BMW Nav IV is pretty bloomin' good! It 's just the phone hands free which sounds badly distorted when chained through.

What's the best bluetooth headset? Are there any that just let you plug in ear monitors in and disable the speakers?

For music the little low rent unit is brilliant - but voice capability is all but useless due to the almost complete lack of noise cancellation in the built in microphone.

Expect to be sub 30 mph or less (maybe even stationary) for your caller to hear your audio.

Exceptional little unit for just audio in from music and sat nav voice prompts :thumb

Best :nenau

Have used Scala Rider (1st generation) and Interphone (1st generation), the latter being a bike to bike/rider pillion intercom.

From these two the only discernable difference was the noise cancelling on the Interphone which was brilliant, telephone conversations at motorway sppeds and my audio was indistinguishable from sitting in a quiet room.

Am just having an Interphone F4 adapted for a trial so as this is a current model I have greater hopes that full A2DP stereo bluetooth married with their excellent microphone will be the real deal.

Well keep us informed......

Incidentally, I have a pair of Ultimate ear monitors but one channel isn't working (the wire is broken where it enters the moulding). What's the deal for getting them repaired?

Send them in http://www.ultimateear.com/asp/contact.asp

A technician will assess them and depending on age will either repair them under warranty or quote for a repair. They will need your impressions as well so should they be damaged during the repair process (they are subject to stress through drilling) new ones can be made.

Yep

Done this and works fine.

You need a 50 - 100 ohm resistor on each line to stop the hiss.

Thanks Karl - that sound's straightforward.

Before I go ahead and buy the BMW Bluetooth headset and then hack into it, I'm waiting to see if we can buy these in the UK:

It's to go with the Sena SMH10 Stereo Bluetooth Headset. It replaces the existing clamp with one you can plug in in ear monitors, and have a choice of mic - attachable boom or stick on.

I think this will work ok with my System 6 helmet as I you should be able to place the boom mic inside of the helmet, and not foul the sun shade slider. I've just asked if they can get them in the UK.

Mike

Hi Mike - the UK contact for getting hold of the Sena is Alan Pumfrey at http://asptrad.co.uk or call him on 07503 494451 or 01223 232108.

He is the UK importer for the Sena SMH10 and accessories. I have bought the unit and extra headset from him. Expect to pay about £40 inc.VAT and shipping for the headset you have illustrated. I'm very happy with the quality of the Sena and it's accessories.

Hope this helps...

Buying the Sena in the US and getting it shipped over is cheaper at around £130 for the single unit after vat/import duty, a £50 saving on UK importers prices :augie

Thanks for the tips guys but I've already ordered it from Mike at Ultimate Bike Gear, who was very helpful in getting it all for me.

Nick - I did originally try to order it from the Senabluetooth.com web store, but they use Amazon check out which is restricted to the US and Canada. How did you manage to get around that?

I'll let you all know how it fits with the Sys 6, but it should be ok, as find some more pics on the Sena website which show it working with the Sys 6 and C3 (with the adaptor I mentioned above):
