I'm returning from Barcelona and have the option to "divert" across to catch a bit of alpage.

I'll be coming from Grenoble and fancied the Mont Blanc Tunnel then north to lake Geneva.

Has anyone tried this area late October? Whats the weather/ road conditions usually like?

All advice gratefully recieved.

Yes.

Cold and wet when I did it. The one really annoying factor is not so much the weather (good kit and a bit of preparation deals with that) but the loss of light, especially when the clocks fall back at the end of the month.

You could ask the guys on www.alpineroads.com but as stated above weather can never be gauranteed, but I would assume by now there is a real risk of snow on the high ground and it ain't gonna be all that warm.

What about heading South towards the med, I assume the lower passes and roads there will be pretty good year round?
