Black Forest & Vosges six-day tour. I am wondering if anyone has actually done the route that Simon Weir sells via his website and can give some feedback on how good the route is . Any information would be appreciated, thanks

6 of us are looking to travel in May .

Weir is no amateur when it comes to offering up ‘biker friendly’ ideas for routes. As he doesn’t know whether the rider(s) will be on a race tuned R1 or trundling along on a Himalayan 411, whether they are beginners or ‘experts’, he steers a pretty conservative middle path. That is not a bad thing in itself.

For the six of you (the forum’s classic, “Me and five mates…”) the cost would not be astronomical and you’ll all have a pretty good time, I’m sure.

PS That said, there are plenty enough posts and trip reports here on UKGSer, to give the six of you enough to DIY. It’s fun and free!

Simon probably created the free routes for Alsace here

Almost certainly, when RiDE was doing some very reasonable European touring pieces. Since he left the magazine, it’s gone back to ‘Crackin’ route in Norfolk’ type stuff.

Agreed, most their routes in places I know well I consider to be OK but often missing some gems, probably for the aforementioned reasons.

I like Mr Weir and don't wanna do him out of some earnings, but there is more than enough info on here for routes, I have posted shit loads for the Black Forest and ways to get their in other threads, as have many others.

What you hopefully get for your money is solid and well tested routes, I can spend quite a lot of time planning routes even when going back to places I know well, so factor that in, if your trying to add the fuel and coffee stops in for a 6 day tour it can be a lot of research, if you aren't so bothered about those details then just digging out free routes and pasting them together / filling in the gaps will work well.

Love to hear how you get on.
