Has anyone looked at solutions for a shorter side stand requirement?

Having just lowered my own bike by 20mm the bike has of course now `sat up` a little higher - not that this is a problem nor is the slightly extra effort needed to get it on its side stand.

My question is what is the `common` solution for a shorter side stand? If there is a solution?

Generally have we;

Bought a replacement side stand at the thick end of £200?

Chopped a bit out and welded the foot back on?

Done anything else?

If there`s a common answer to this I`ll remain thankfulo for opinions before I either sell a kidney or go grab my grinder!

Many thanks guys and ride safe :beerjug:

Not sure if it would work on an LC bike, but on my TC which is lowered 30mm I increased the bend on the side stand and welded in a brace . This still works with the main stand that I shortened ( cut and weld).

Very well done! And I don’t know if it would work either - I think I’m just gonna buy one that fits!

On my 06 hexhead, lowered 30mm

The centre was lowered 30mm , but its easy on the centre as its just a simple 30mm out of the straight section

We also took 30mm out of the side stand.mind you it has to come out of the curved section, so you have to make angled cuts to keep the foot / floor geometry correct

Mine has been lowered 30mm and side stand is fine, I haven’t modified centre stand as I have original springs in case a new owner wants to put it back to oe height, I just park it on a floorboard if I need to put it on centre stand in the garage.

I know it seems a long way round to bend and brace the side stand rather than just cut and weld, The reason was that I am always nervous of welding near ECU`s even with the battery disconnected.
I found it easier to heat the stand and shape it to the bend and angle that suited, then remove and brace it.
A friend did not bother altering his side stand, we were on the dock side waiting for the ferry (bikes fully loaded) a slight breeze and it was on its side. It looked ok without luggage.

Lowering ya bike does need at least the side stand doing!

I lowered mine by 20mm, thinking that I’d get away with it……..

Nope, the bike sits up too vertical for comfort on the side stand. The extra effort for the main stand (for 20mm drop) is do-able but I had to do something for the side stand.

Had some good support and suggestions off the forum but the ‘quick’ answer (“buy a short one you tight git” ) turned out to be fruitless as Motorworks (and similar fine suppliers of well priced gear) laughed at me down the phone quoting “poo & rocking horses”. My dealer quoted a kidney and god knows when they would get one in.

Luckily I’ve the privilege of having a manufacturing company at my disposal (sometimes I wish I didn’t!) so I cut off what I think I needed to cut off and got Shaun, our resident welder, to weld a similar plate on the bottom.

And voila! Perfect! I suppose I could get it all powder coated or just attack it with a rattle can - either way problem solved in very little time!

Moral of the story - even with a 20mm drop you need a bit chopping off!
