Hey guys. Well, I screwed the pooch on this little purchase.
I found a nice BMW top case on the internet. I emailed the seller and inquired if it was a 35L. He had no idea and was very busy, so based on some dark photos and rough measurements, I went ahead and purchased it.
Well, it has been delivered and it turns out to be a 33L case - BMW part #71-60-2-316-732. It is listed for fitment on the 11xx RT and RS bikes (maybe others), but NOT the 11xxGS series, which are 35L top case retrofits from BMW.
The 33Liter Top Case looks similar to the 35L, but the mounting system is, of course, incompatible :
THe top box I have acquired has the optional backrest pad, keylock and carrier locking assembly -
But, it is designed to mount to a shorter carrier design: the RT has it -
And the RS too -
The 35Liter carrier rack retrofit unit on my 1100GS is correct for a 35L case mount but obviously incorrect for the 33L.
I am thinking that I could mount the RS/RT carrier onto my rear deck, but that's another 70+ bucks US and creates the ugly factor of having a carrier 'sandwich'.
I am hopeful that someone has done this before so I may just get lucky.
It is a top case that can serve me well.
If it becomes a fabrication issue, then Swap/Sell/barter time
as it does not go with my Aluminum clear-coated Jessie Bags/Panniers all that well anyway .
