to an Airhead??

If so what was it like?

Was it a split bearing

a Round bush

was the oil hole pre drilled

I'm looking into one just now and what came out and what went in were the same part number on both but the new one is split and no predrilled oil hole

And the coup de grace it is 21mm ID and the Gudgeon pin is 22mm OD

The fellow I took it to is an old hand on machining now retired with his own wee business

He took a look but his view is it is "lead" coated and that the coating should not be removed he also reckons that the reamer would skip over the bearing split??

What do you think Bob

I'm a good spanner jockey and can seek out what faults are and fix them sometimes tho you just have to buy another person's expertise as it's more cost effective when it's not your normal

Its probably designed to be finished off with an Expanding Reamer after fitting :augie.

Hmmmm, I hadn't realised that they were white-metal lined (lead coated).

And he's probably right about the reamer with its straight, parallel cutters.

If the original pushed out of the little end eye easily I would try and source a solid (non-split) bush of the correct (finished) size and push it in.

however, if it needs to be pressed in with a lot of force I would go for finishing after its been fitted. A non-split bush will be easier to finish and the oil hole can be drilled after fitting - but before finishing.

I've got to make a little end bush for a Panther engine so I'll be going through the same head scratching routine :D

If the gudgeon pin is EXACTLY 22mm, then a non-expanding reamer has helical flutes and should therefore cope with a split in the bush (ignoring any lining).

£17.40 here (but is a high speed, so probably for use in a lathe :thumb):

One can pay over £100 for a top quality 22mm hand reamer .

I don't have any (yet).
