None of my 1200s have had a gearbox problem, 2005, 2010, and now my 2013. The 2005 and 2010 were typical GS dry clutch gearboxes, bit clunky and agricultural, the occasional false neutral but once one had adapted to their quirks all were good enough. My very early 2013 is very different as one would expect from a multi-plate wet clutch - it has some clutch drag and clonks into 1st most of the time (just like many other wet clutch bikes from all manufacturers). If you pussy foot around with the lever it will rattle and vibrate back through the lever because of the clutch drag - no real surprise there. Once you have learnt the rapid shift up and blip down techniques all is sweetness and light![]()
Strange that the wet clutches in my japanese bikes or multistrada 1200s had no such quirks or required special techniques.
Seriously, something aint right with it and its going in for a service soon so i will be telling em so.
Still love the bike tho.

that does not seem right at all.
