Had the 18k /valve check done Thursday at a BMW dealer.
Today went for a spin which went well....
When I was gettin' my kit off I noticed oil on my boots (both)... on careful inspection there was oil around the head cover gasket...

so ... should I expect a little oil here or have they made a cock up?

:(

Take it back, don't touch anything, don't attempt to tighten anything. If it didn't leak before let the dealer sort it

Probably just the residue from when the covers were off.....wipe around the lower faces of covers to heads & give it a squirt up the road and re-check for any leaks .... if there is take it back....personally i wouldn't. I'd nip them up myself and not return to that dealer.

If it's still leaking take it back, ask for a refund on what you paid for the road test and leave them your boots for a clean!!

I've never experienced that on any of my services ........ The bare minimum you should do is let the dealer know what you have found :thumb2

Hope these instructions arnt too hard to follow.
Clean your boots.
Buy some kitchen roll.
Wipe all the oil off the heads.
See what happens.
Then post on the Forum.

Mine did exactly that after a service at my local bimmer shop... p*ssed out all over me boots on the way to the ferry. Turned out it had been overfilled. Had to drain a little oil out to let me see the top of the oil in the viewing glass... and it stopped p*ssing out all over me boots.

But thats ok, the dealer said it was impossible to overfill in the workshop because its squirted in in exact quantities by the boys, so it couldnt have been overfilled could it?

Silly me, I must have imagined it.

:pullface

Interesting thought there Michael .. I checked it when I picked it up (have heard of forgetting to put the oil in:eek:) ... just re-checked it and it's a couple of mm below the top of the red circle ...
so I guess it's not level ... shame

Phoned the dealer - he told me to bring it back in

I have the same service coming up on the 1st April - Midlands dealer!
I'll watch out for the same symptoms

Name and Shame !

As mentioned above, time to mention the Dealers name ! If you dont want to put it on here PM me as I've had issues with a certain Midlands Dealer in the past ! :augie

Let's just say it ends in "cock" ... which seems like it could be quite appropriate

I did go back in ... they couldn't find ANYTHING but they re-torque'd the cover bolts (just in case) ...cleaned it up and said come back if it does it again :comfort

It just seemed like too much oil to be residue from the valve check work ...

fingers crossed

The old one? ... Me ... although that hasn't turned a wheel in 2 years ...:augie

The 1050 has now gone but when it was under warranty 'their' Trumpy branch ... they were OK just feckin expensive

... we shan't mention their shoddy work could have killed a friend ....
