Its that time of year again, and Hastings are coming in very reasonable on price, plus there excess is only £150 compared to others that around £350 which I think is too much, so my question is has anybody had to claim or had any good or bad dealings with them cheers in advance :thumb2

Used Hastings a few years ago for my car insurances (in the end there were 3 vehicles insured separately ), they give very low quotes the first year to get your business and then more than double them the following year .

You can haggle them down but never as low as the first years quotes and in the end I couldn't be arsed with the hassle of haggling with them 3 times a year and went elsewhere

Yep, had my insurance with them for 3 years now ... Not had an accident for 30 years and had one last year. Very good initial call, helpful and sympathetic, but then all went downhill a bit when my bike was picked up and my 'legal cover' was passed on to a bunch of charlatans. Record of some telephone conversations disappeared as well ... Nothing to stop me insuring with them again, but I'd not bother paying for legal cover that's for sure (and that's the advice given to me by the solicitor dealing with my claim)

Can't comment on claims/service as never needed but have experienced their ridiculous price hikes. Renewal quote just came through and it is over £200 more than last year with no claims or change of personal circumstances. Will start shopping round tomorrow.

Insure my car through them. Premium last year was £332 10+ years NCB, protected no claims. This years premium just dropped on the mat, £598.

Yearly occurrence - i'll check an on-line comparison site - get price - phone Hastings - they match it. Cover is as good as I need, just a kerfuffle at renew time

Cheers for the replies so far, keep them coming, as still can't make my mind up whether to try them or not, Dave

Just try them. If they are cheap for a year, buy it. If they are not, don't. It's not very difficult.

If they are more expensive to renew with, or you can find something better in 365 days time, then don't renew with them. It really is incredibly easy. Your thinking about it will take longer. It's not open heart surgery you are looking for, it's very basic motor insurance.

Used Hastings last year, cheapest deal I could find at the time. Renewal wasn't such a good deal so went back to CN whose European breakdown cover is inc in the policy. Never needed to test their claims dept but I suspect you get what you pay for. Had a claim with CN about 10 years ago, very happy with the service I received.

Its not the money, I'm more bothered about getting shite service if I ever need to make a claim,

You'll never know, as post 4 indicates.

Let's look at what the chain of the thread really consists of so far:

Post 1 is your question

Post 2 is nothing about claims, all about premium (see post 7)

Post 3 implies that the bod was dead happy for three years but then there is a moan about claims. Feck knows what problems he really had. They were probably not with his Motor insurer / broker at all but with some numpty solicitor.

Post 4 is nothing about claims, but all about renewal premium (see post 7)

Post 5 is your untold joy at the responses to date / being a girl, unable to decide

Post 6 shows no opinion on claims service; it's all about premium (see post 7)

Post 7 is 'Get a grip, mate'

Post 8 is a bod being dead happy but then a moan over renewal terms (see post 7)

Post 9 is a continuation of your post 5, only more girly

So.... as per post 7.... Go for the best premium you can find and keep your fingers crossed......

I've used them, as has Magnet. One of us, not telling you who, wrote off a bike in Germany and they were very good. Wrote the bike off on the basis of my description over the phone, paid out punctually, no hassle. What they did badly was fail to effectively arrange recovery of the bike. It sat for a long time in the garage of the Hotel Forsthaus while they paid Christian for storage before, eventually, he bought it off them. Not our problem though and he was happy.

Will they hit you with an increase at renewal time? Course they will. Show me an insurers that doesn't. Will they bring it down to a realistic price if you haggle. Yes. I have found them to be in the best two or three for price consistently over the years.

Wow, post 11's got it nailed.

Good price, keen claims service, screw you on renewal.

Use it to balance out the negativity of post 3, whilst giving it a good mix into the (inevitable) they'll rip down your pants and roger you senseless at renewal replies.

The important question has so far gone unasked,do Hastings employ a higher standard of chimp than other insurers :nenau

If their chimps can hit the dirt cheap button, beating other companies' chimps ten times out of ten, then they'll be the best chimps in the dark jungle of insurance buying.

Just called Hastings.............

"Not sure if modifications would be covered for both bikes"

"Who said 2 bikes? I have 4"

"We only do 2 bikes"

"Does that really qualify as 'multi'?"

"Well - it's more than 1"

"okay - thanks, Bye!"

Phoned up Adelaide Insurance (Belfast) and got a quote for 4 bikes (3 of which are significantly-modified) - great service, and a great quote.

Unlike a lot of other brokers/underwriters - all the modifications are not only accepted............ but are covered too!

In the case of my R-1, that is Power Commander, Cans, Full Ohlins suspension, Carbon Fibre wheels.

Tip top service, and 2/3 the price of Carol Gnash (and all the shite - that entails) :rob

I'd recommend giving James Fraser a call, on 028 9044 2200. :thumb2
