Just by chance I found this - another view of Mac's

Warning - NWS towards the end as he does cuss a bit.
Either way, you get owned. (iPod/iTunes users will testify to that!).

Straining to see how I am "owned" by a clear, simpe and completely reliable bit of software that puts music in my ears and vid in my eyes exactly when and how I want it
) at any old time without needing any proprietary software, and transfer and play any old files I want whenever I want with no DRM or any other issues. There is no reason why you shouldn't be able to do this with an iPod*, in fact my non-Apple mp3 player uses the exact same hard drive that Apple uses in iPods and it does all those things. Actually there is a reason - it's because Apple has disabled this default inherent functionality in it's iPods via the firmware because they want you locked into using iTunes and a limited number of audio/video formats in order that they can then sell you media via their own distribution channels, and no-one elses. Much like Sony and their recent exploits in DAP-land, they're trying to control your spending behaviour and limit your choices to their own advantage - or if you're under 20, OWN you i'm trying to restrain myself, but its no use....![]()
Why does anyone need a dedicated mp3 player these days? My phone does the 20 albums of music thing![]()
