May you live as long as you want,
And never want as long as you live.
May you be slow and last to anger.
And be the first and fast to forgive

May the rains fall soft upon your fields.
And the sun shine warm upon your face.
May your spuds be spared from the frost.
And the hens lay eggs around your place.

May the Irish hills caress you.
May your pockets be heavy and your heart be light,
May her lakes and rivers bless you.
May good luck pursue you each morning and night.
May the Lord keep you in His hand and never close his fist too tight.

May the roof above you never fall in; may those gathered below it never fall out.
May the sun shine bright on your windowpane and the rainbow be certain to follow the rain.

From this day forward may the saddest day of your future be no worse than the happiest day of your past.

Always remember to forget the friends that proved untrue.
But never forget to remember those that have stuck by you.
Always remember to forget the things that made you sad.
But never forget to remember the things that made you glad.
Always remember to forget the troubles that passed away.
But never forget to remember the blessings that come each day.

Since you are having thoughts for this new year

First of all, a way to live, and then a thought about those you have lost over the last year or so:

"Get Drunk!", by Charles Baudelaire
One should always be drunk. That's all that matters;
that's our one imperative need. So as not to feel Time's
horrible burden one which breaks your shoulders and bows
you down, you must get drunk without cease.
But with what?
With wine, poetry, or virtue
as you choose.
But get drunk.
And if, at some time, on steps of a palace,
in the green grass of a ditch,
in the bleak solitude of your room,
you are waking and the drunkenness has already abated,
ask the wind, the wave, the stars, the clock,
all that which flees,
all that which groans,
all that which rolls,
all that which sings,
all that which speaks,
ask them, what time it is;
and the wind, the wave, the stars, the birds, and the clock,
they will all reply:
"It is time to get drunk!
So that you may not be the martyred slaves of Time,
get drunk, get drunk,
and never pause for rest!
With wine, poetry, or virtue,
as you choose!"

At Halloween and All Souls, grieve for the spring, the Summer, and the light that is fading.
Light the candles and remember the souls we have loved and who are gone with the fallen leaves.
They linger forever on the edges of our memories, beautiful and out of reach.
Put a candle in the window, and leave the door on the latch: I make the table ready, for they have never gone away.
