To my fellow GPS Geeks:

I'm going soon to visit Prague and Vienna. I have a Quest 1 that I'd like to bring along and load up with maps.

What maps should I get?

Worldmap - looks like its very high level roads only

City Navigator Europe - this seems to be the one to get. detailed. needs "unlock codes". will do auto-routing on the Quest, I believe. $300?

City Selete Europe - similar to CNE. But discontinued? Does it need unlock codes? Will it do autorouting on the Q?

Metroguide Europe - old and discontinued. Unlock codes? Autorouting? $130?

I might consider getting an older and non autorouting product if I could pick it up for el cheapo. I'm not sure I can justify dropping 300 clams no this stuff!

Thanks for any tips and pointers you guys can give me.

- Sam

PS, I've posted the same question over on AdvRider, but somehow you folks tend to have a more lively chat going on about the Geek Positioning Systems.

Prague and Vienna and fully covered in City Select Europe V7 (standard with European Quests) and does autorouting.

City Select Europe requires unlock codes.

Haven't tried it, but I would be sure that City Navigator is just the same.

Worldmap doesn't require unlock codes, but coverage is pretty poor and definitely not available at street level !!

Hi Sam,
I am about an hour from vienna in Gyor, Hungary some of the time. I have a spare quest loaded up with uptodate mapping - including hungary as well.
i am sure we might be able to come to a deal to let you borrow it whilst you are here. When are you coming?

Gavin,

Wow! That is awfully nice of you to offer. :bow

I will be flying in to Prague and leaving from Vienna, so working out the details might be a bit of work. I am currently thinking about spending around $75 on Metroguide for Europe which will give me maps but no autorouting. Seems like a pretty good compromise.

My wife thinks we should just use paper maps. Can you believe that?!? How stone-age!

You can Autoroute with MetroGuide Europe!! I have it working on my Quest1 and GpsMap60c with a free program named MetroWiz..

Having just returned from a tour around europe we all had Garmin Quests, street pilots etc but one chap had a map and I found you need a map to get the most from your gps.

You can see straight away where you want to go on the map and if you dont fancy motorways you can add via points to keep you on the twisty turny bits
