Have you got a set of those silver BMW engine bars on your bike?

.. and if so can i ask a favour, can someone post some photos of the side bracket connection with the upper bracket and also one of how they connect to the sump area.
I have just bought a second hand set and am a bit intrigued as to whether they are kosha! The side connections look different to the BMW microfiche image i saw when ordering the bolt fitting kit on friday.

Cheers in anticipation of any assistance!:beerjug:

Adventure bars or standard GS bars ??

There are two different types of standard bmw GS bars. Early and late.

The early type are bastards, all one piece which requires them to be removed every time you change the oil and filter.
The later type have bolted on lowers which you simply undo and remove when dropping the sump.

Hi - thanks for quick reply.
These are in sections. Must be the later ones. They have the upper section x2 which have that straight section over the upper/rear of the heads, then two sort of 'v' shaped lower pieces on each side going down to the sump, then a cross bar which connects the two lower sections across the front.
The reason i ask is because the two side connections seem to be 'half and hlaf' over each other with two bolts each side, and the microfiche i saw had what looked like a round male/female arrangement.

Might just be me getting it wrong, but wanted to check as fitting them tomorrow, removing my H&B set.

Think one of the pick up point's for the bars is Number 2 / 3 on the photo
Just a thought you may have standard GS centre stand brackets fitted.

ah right thanks
the lower brackets look odd as they have threaded fixed NUTS on the upper faces... cant work out what the bolts enclose ie there must be a plate/flange or something between the bracket and the secure nut

The lower brackets bolt to the sump guard from what I can remember...

Not much help now, but personally I would have stuck with the H&B bars :D

This is what the 1150 GSA bottom half looks like when assembled:

Bars

look on "bobs Bmw" site at spares see the diagram for advinture bars andyou wil see the sump plate is different than the std 1150 and also mounts differently. You'l need some new bits to fit them. Incidently these are designed to act when it falls over come of at speed and they dig in the road and flip the bike over doing a lot of damage as several on here will confirm.
So stick to what you got ro gst a pair of Steptoes head gards.

blimey cracking result - thanks everyone for the help.
So the lowers connect to the sump guard! That sorts that one out. Ta

I do like the HB Bars but i just dunno cant decide, i think they make the bike look a bit odd. Had them on for three years, guess i just fancy a change.

At least i can rest easy that my bars are genuine BMW... :P

great photo too, ta for help people.

Great site this.:clap

ALL FITTED and look great except that i cant get the allen bolt into the right hand side tube - aint got a long enough extension for the wrench... I take it that that is what is needed and it isnt a bizarre bolt that I havent seen yet?

Though I might ask as logical isnt always the answer with BMtroubleyou!

bolt

Long extension is required no funny bolts.

Thats about all they are good for - if you should be unlucky enough to have a slide along the road the top bar acts as a fulcrum point and flips the bike onto the tank, instruments and handlebars and making it immobile. :blast

Usually cause the bike thousands in repairs and writing the bike off. defeating the whole point of their intention :D.
