just cleaning the bike and noticed that one of the torx screws that hold the oe head guards was loose , when i tried to tighten it up by hand the thing was very slack and I could pull the bolt out which makes me think that the numpty who did it up has stripped the thread so as the bolt screws into the barrel what are my options to get the thing to tighten up .

I won't i need to take the barrel off

Just make sure its got the correct M6 screw in the hole and not an M5 or even a 1/4" UNC

If thread is stripped, tap it out with the correct Helicoil or Timesert tap. Screw in the M6 coil/insert with thread lock. Job done.

Use anti seize paste on the screw thread.

So theres no need to drill it , just retap it

Granny and eggs mode on

Just measure the hole depth and don't drill any deeper. If it needs to be drilled the helical instructions will say. Timeserts are a better option but TBH overkill for the rocker cover protector.

Mode off.
