When i bought my Gs the header pipes were slightly tarnished especialy close to the engine.
However last night i have noticed they have gone a striking blue anielled colour, since i put a tank of optimax in..

1. Is there a way of stopping this happening?

2. Can it be removed in anyway?

3. Anyone else noticed this with optimax?

I normally run standard Unleaded, but thought i would try a tank of optimax, used to make the Bandit 600 tickover a lot smoother.

I have also had the Co2 chip mod done recently, could this make the engine run hotter?

Not getting it..

What i dont understand is..

My bike is a 2000 reg bike nearly 4 years old now.
When i bought the bike the pipes had a bit of discolouration at the tops, but now they have gone bright blue.

Ok its a nice gun metal style blue. But why now and not with the first owner.. ?

Since having the chip done on the engine, it does seem to run a bit hotter but not sure if thats just the weather is warmer and noticing the engine heat a bit more as i sit on it..

Hmmm

well i just checked a couple of pics i took when i bought the beast.. seems the pipes were discoloured then..as can be seen below.. i just didnt seem to recall it..

The piccy below is the beast about 1 week after buying it.. it has a nice set of bars and otherbits now..

1 & 2 Yes, Camcoat (Warrington based) are able to apply coatings the headers (inside and out) which will either restore or avoid. There is some discussion that it will increase efficiency.

However be prepared for the bike to be off the road when they do it.

Cost is not high - around £80 and there is no warranty on used headers.

I will be shipping them in this winter...

Camcoat Warrington

The chip may make a difference as the heat will be different. The blueing will depend upon the heat produced.. The fuel shou;d not make any difference

Cheers..

Thanks for that. £80 is a little high, but if you can get some custome colours done on the pipes then it might be worth it.

For me I will just leave it, I was just worried somethng might be amiss with engine.

I took a punt at the price (I assume that they would charge for each downpipe which is £30 for satin black, £45 for Cermakrome, £36 for Matt or Gloss Colours (Red, White, Blue, Gold, Silver, Purple  , yelow   ). You would then have to double. But the price list is April 2002 so do not know what changes.

I spoke with them mid 2003 and they really wanted to see the bike to give a quote.

The max temps vary for the finish with the Gloss being the lowest at 600. That is marginal for a high performance engine (some thermal mapping of a header on a race bike I saw somewhere showed peak temps around 750).

These are ceramics coatings, coating the inside would reduce the temp experienced by the outside and aid gas flow...

It is also not far from you, about an hours ride.....

Many consider this blueing a sign of a bike ridden fast and hard.
A bit like a nice clean white burning tail pipe.
It is also considered part of the bikes aesthetic look - I like a nice blue header on a boxer!
Certainly it is due to a heat range (and probably cooling rate) on the chromed stainless.
My advice learn to like and live with it - you probably did not like the taste of beer the first time either!

Hansa Pilsner - yuk sies man, won't drink that crap again!

Header pipe coloring is something I have never worried about unless they rusted through which could be a bit more of a problem :)

I think if it was a nice shiny chromed Harley different story altogether.

Hansa is alot beter than Castle!!!!

Hope the Bokke do well tomorow.

The colour is caused by the bike been ridden hard and if you do get ride of it, it will just come back again, so learn to love it, I think it loooks great.

Forget SAB beers - Windhoek lager is the answer of you cannot have pom ale! Bokke were robbed last week (just shows the game is not over till the fat prop sings!) ... holding thumbs come morrow... have a couple for me::beer:

The blue goes nicely with Blue white bikes:D
adamZ sounded a good price.

Paragaon I saw this as well "Also in the US ceramic coating is popular, (onlt read about it)"

on U.S site
I saw details :
"Ceramic exhaust $200.00
Tired of looking at blue or very dirty exhaust pipes that never come clean-I offer ceramic coated pipes coated inside and out that will not turn blue and require very little cleaning. These are sold on an exchange basis so your bike need not be down. They carry a 3yr warranty, and are avalable for all 259 twins--"

The guy is in Florida so a bit too expensive and time consuming to send your parts over there.

I am NOt tired of looking at my pipes and if YOU are just put your slippers or sandals on and relax.
:D

Ahh Dom but you forget that we have ample supply of Guinness dude! Looks like mud, taste like mud and you feel like mud after a couple - but all in the name of a few more:D :beerjug:

Hopefully the boks don't have another 379 tackle game like last week.
