My GS came with a Touratech perspex headlamp protector fitted, but I find that at night some light reflects back from it and is quite annoying.

Can anyone identify the grille pictured below? I am thinking of getting one of these in the hope that it will cure the Touratech problem. Where are they available from, and roughly how much will it cost?

Thanks.

Looks like a normal Adventure grille to me. With the TT perspex protector it works better if you cut the arms down a bit so the protector sits under the lip of the silver cover on top of the clocks/lights. Cookie posted the measurements he uses recently so have a search for them.

Alternatively I noticed a set of protectors in my dealer made by a company called Ventura. They just stick on to velcro pads. I used to have one fitted to my old R1100RS and it worked a treat.

I've seen these on the Touratech website, and they stated they were not for road use, so be warned if you get them: off for MOTs and any very astute PC may pick up on this (although this is unlikely).. Personally, I'm planning to get the same perspex ones and I'll probably follow Cookie's instruction. Grille looks good, though! :thumb

Thanks guys.

The grille I saw on the Touratech was the mesh type Warthog, which doesn't appeal at all.

Think I will hold out until I can get one like the example above. MOT over here shouldn't be a problem.

The search goes on. Thanks again.

I looked at them but the lights are dim anough already without anything in front of them. I figured I'd just pay for the smashed lenses. (none yet).

I've found that having the protector close to the lens makes the lights brighter on the road, I imagine because I'm not losing light reflected off the TT perspex protector.

Good luck with replacing just the lens if you have to. My dip beam was hit by a stone a few months back and I couldn't find anywhere that did them. Ended up having to buy a new unit.

It may cure the "Touratech problem" but I'm not convinced it's going to do much to actually protect the headlights :(
I guess it will give some protection from big rocks and bricks but not much else... normal size stones would stand a pretty good chance of getting through IMO.
And if that's the case, there doesn't seem point in having them other than the macho look. I've got the TT perspex ones and have the same mod that Cookie has described. It does help the reflected light problem but the lights are still crap.

fair point - I'll probably change my mind when I actually have to go and buy new lights. (That's if I notice they're smashed)

the TT grill looks like it would give any stone big enough to smash the lens a poor chance of penetration.

it also looks good on a nice dirty bike in a mad max stylee ;)

edit: i really must do something about those untidy shiny spots on the rims :mmmm

ps. the cup holder is a bmw original, not TT.

Here's what happened to my light on the day I was supposed to fit my new TT perspex protector
