Hi chaps,
I need to change the headlamp on a PD, started taking bits off, now stopped , :o need to do a bit of checking maybe see if there is anything in the haynes book :mmmm . Anyone done it?
D

not me

but i might need to do the same, and my mate jim, who has the lens, but plans to make a meal of it this winter.. :D

I've got my PD cockpit area apart at the moment. ( I presume you are refering to the later model PD), and it's a little bit of a nightmare. I'm actually replacing the upper cockpit/speedo panel on mine, so it is bound to be a little bit more involved.

I've took the whole lot apart, including the upper crashbar, and the upper panel that houses the Speedo ect, it was still a nause getting the actual light unit out,..well, fiddly, y'know?

You WILL need to remove both upper side panels, which means removing the indicator heads from the stalks...

I'll be reassembling it tomorrow, so I'll check if there's any shortcuts you can do. Fire any questions at me this evening if you like.

Having a set of 'wobbly' Allen sockets on a 12" extension bar is the way forward. But wouldn't suggest you buy 'em..I needed a mortgage to buy mine.

OK got the two side panels off, and can have a good look. Do i take the lens and reflector forwards, or the whole plastic frame back and out to one side. and the mountings to the reflector, is there a knack to remove or just pull hard? tia

OK...now the easy way!

I just put mine back together, then took the headlight back out to see how easily it can be done.

Remove RH upper fairing panel ( RH as well if you can't get access). Do not touch the black plastic frame, just unplug the connectors, and unscrew the 2 knurled headlamp adjuster knobs. ( RH side is top of black frame, LH side is bottom of black frame.

Headlight now falls out!

So. I tiewrapped all the looms out of the way, and next time, all I need to do is remove the tank, and I can get to the adjusters from underneath the handlebars, without removing any panels.

Best of luck.
