My 08 GSA has dip beam has a good spread and nobody complains about dazzle (no headlights flashed at me yet). But the main beam does not focus light down the road. It just puts light in the same area as the dip. I can probably see more distance without the main beam than with it - less light bouncing back from the foreground.

All I can see is the sideways and tilt adjustment knobs for the whole lamp pod which dont solve the problem. Is there any way to adjust the lights separately to raise the main beam angle, but leave the dip beam as it is?

Nope! no headlight protector.

I'm considering fitting some mega bright LED pod lights to work with main beam, but quite a bit of work and lights are £100+ for the pair.

The normal complaint of the UK headlight is that main beam lights up the tree tops, the pavement and the houses on the left ...

It sounds to me like your bulb is out of alignment, could be main or dip...

It could be that one is not seated properly, or even upside down. They go in to
the headlight opposite ways up, the downside of the dip bulb is the up side of the main. Hope that makes sense ? :aidan ...

Get them right and you too can enjoy the near pointless experience of using the main beam. It certainly does not dazzle the rider

I meant, dip dazzling other road users when I tip the whole unit up to get a useful main beam. :)

I'll check the bulb seating. Thanks for the tip.

I'll probably get the LEDs anyway but in the meantime a half-decent main beam would be nice to have.

I don't think you will see much improvement. The standard light setup is awful in general.

I fitted hella FF50's on my 1150 and it made a world of difference. I'm looking to do the same on my 1200 as you probably know from my thread in this section.

These throw a long range narrow beam down the road that is amazing. These are available for about £60 pair and two "P" clips with a stainless brace bar to mount them on located above the BMW fogs will sort you out.

I put a link to the "how too" on my thread. Take a live feed from the main beam electrics and a common earth and job done :thumb

lights

These are crap so don't expect any improvement, contact Les Wassel of this parish he will sort you out some proper lights.

I'll check out the Hella 550 but also want to see hoe the new high power LEDs look. 3000 Lumens will blow 50W halogen into the weeds - if its focussed properly. I'll report back.

I'll keep an eye on this as I too would be prepared to try a different setup. I recommend the FF50's because I have used them and know the output was good for long beams of light chucked down the road.

Everytime I read about the LED option they are either based on fog light beam patterns or users say that used as a high beam the light fades quite a bit bit where you need it.... Long range down the middle of the road.

Good luck with your research as I'm doing the same :thumb2
