Hi, I bought a headlight grill for my GS Adventure from the For Sale and Wated forum. It arrived, I'm happy with it. But I can't work out how to fit the bleeding thing. I've had the screen, the panel underneath it and the headlight cowling off but it's really not obvious how to fit it.

Can anyone explain it to me, or point me in the direction of a how to guide?

Thanks

Thanks for the link. My bike is an 1150 adventure. The part I want to fit is a headlight grill, black steel grid, rather than an oil cooler grill.

Any ideas?

Here's a picture of it

Thats the bmw part ok ! Did the seller give you the little mounting bits that replace the screws that hold in the headlight ???? They replace the bottom screws.

The grill has two captive Torx bolts which screw into it - ie away from the bike.

The headlight cowling is held on by two Phillips screws, of the same size and pitch as the Torx ones on the grill.

The screws which hold the headlight cowling on are orientated in the opposite direction to the headlight grill - ie into the bike, away from the grill. The headlight cowling threads are inserted into the plastic behind the headlight.

On my ADV there were a couple of little brass bolts that fitted into the two bottom screw holes and these had a little ball mount on top that the spring clips fitted onto. Ghod that doesn't make any sense, so here's a picture I took to show the little wire gadget I had to stop it getting lost as it's a push on pull off fit. You can see the silver spring parts fitted to the grill and a bit of the brass they clip on to. The seller may just have stuck the brass bits in upside down, going by your description.

On the Max BMW parts fiche (http://www.maxbmwmotorcycles.com/fiche/fiche.asp) go to the R1150 ADV section, follow the link down to "Radios and Special Equipment" and you'll see the part numbers (although the diagram shows them fitting to the top legs of the grill, not the bottom).

That's a great help, thanks to everyone for taking the time to post. Sadly it looks like there's a bit missing from my grill, the brass ball mount. I have managed to fit it by reversing the silver cage and sliding it onto the headlight grill itself - see pic below.

It seems pretty firm, I'll see how I go.
