I see the BM headlamp is actually made of plastic, but ... a new one (it's one sealed unit) is about £800.
I can't speak for the others, but I take my bike off road and also do a bit of teaching and ride fairly close to the bike infront of me.
My current GSA has a bloody great crack in the headlight because I didn't put a guard on it. (although it is made of glass ..)
The plastic lamp will probably be pretty bomb proof and I guess BM in their 'what can we improve' thinking have seen that a glass lamp on an adventure bike is a daft idea. But for an extra £20 ?? It's a bit more protection for bugger all money.

It was still almost mint when I sold it... perhaps not trying hard enough....but surely you're only going to break the light if you crash into a tree trunk and a little piece of perspex will do fck all in that case
I'm in awe of the crash ability of the 'older' GS/GSA and only time will tell if the radiators survive a little smashing, but that's off topic

It's specifically stones being thrown up from a bike in front that will feck your headlight, if you don't ride with other bikes its not that likely to be a problem, but if you're regularly out with others, it's definitely worth it..
Yeah done that loads, but obviously not close enough, like what happened in....no I'll get my coat nowif you're regularly out with others, it's definitely worth it..

Mine received today, easy to attach I like it.
Does that touch the headlight? If not, I guess you have to remove it every time you want to clean the headlight?

I've got big hands so I can't do all the headlight but it's literally 2 mins to take off so no big deal.
