HEADLIGHT PROTECTOR (CLEAR) - R1200GS

Hi above is advertised on NN's web site description below:-

Our Headlight Protector is manufactured from 3mm acrylic sheet to follow the shape and contours of the headlight and mounts 4mm from the headlight using super strong velcro attachment. However it is easy to remove for cleaning. Fits:
R1200GS

Question, has anyone bought/had any experience of this product.
The ones I have seen out and about do not have velcro fastening.
Does it look good (with velcro) as the photo on the site is quite small.

Any comments greatly apppriciated before I spend my money.

I had this and its ok, it will protect your headlight but i gave it to a mate and got the up market one with glare protector for about £70, no complaints here

i have the TT unit with anti glare.
i had a velcro one on the 1150 but
prefer the bolt on jobbie with eye brow

BMW do one as well. It snaps on to the headlight surround and comes as a kit.

You do need to add an anti glare thing for it though. It is the best solution IMO.

Got the velcro on jobbie... dropped the bike in some bushes... got home...no velcro on jobbie anymore as it had fell off

Got the BMW one now.... and I reckon its good value as it comes with a replacement surround that it clips on to....

Thing is I've exprlored the anti glare thing for it, and the TT one probably won't fit, and BMW don't make one....

So I've improvised , first with a bit of stiff plastic cable tied onto the bar above the clocks, then used a bit of angle ally ( a cut down TT rear crud catcher) that does the job fine and for free.

skinflint method

Ok people, as much as i love farkling bikes, headlight protectors are so easy to make yourself, you olny need them on when playing on the rough stuff so why use them 100% of the time, when dirty they just take your light away.

go to your local car spares shop and ask for a blank number plate, make a template of your headlight and carefully cut it out. use a bench grinder to get your curves as the polycarbon melts rather than splinters.
once done attach several small bits of velcro and hey presto. a headlight protector for about £6. Always done me fine, never fell off and when its full of crap i just pull it off before going on the road sections.

have a go, it aint hard

saying that i have a mesh one on the 800gs i picked up cheep, its bloody awfull and splits my main beam. even with an HID
