Hello I wouldn't mind some advice as to which headlight protector to go for, I dont really like the stick on ones though,

Must admit I just bought a stick on one off ebay, I did'nt want to spend a fortune but also do not want to pay for a new light. I guess the non stick on one can look better, but I guess if your worried about cosmetics, then you won't be happy with the stick on! The other consideration is the stick on can be nicked very quickly! You get what you pay for and as long as it does the job, thats all that matters.

I did have a stick on one on a previous bike but someone nicked it, and I ended up sticking the velcro to my fingers, bit clumsey

Disclaimer - I'm the UK distributor :)

I've got the BWM protector which is easy to fit and can be taken on and off in seconds. The downside of it is that at night you get reflection off it from the main beam. I think this is a risk with all the perspex ones that sit proud of the light itself.

What about this?

Looks clever, and neat. Not so sure about those perspex protectors though, since I had a set on an old Peugeot 306, and had a stone punch straight through both the protector and the headlamp glass.

Could just have been bad luck, though.

I just bought one of these from Australian Headlight Protectors : http://www.amhp.com.au/amhpshop/product_info.php?cPath=24&products_id=78. 3mm acrylic, so may be not what you are after, but couldn't fault the price - even with postage from Oz! Haven't fitted it yet, as we don't need headlight protectors for day-to-day riding, but am impressed with general quality. (OH also bought AMHP protectors for his Triumph Tiger.) :thumb2

I bought the stick on type as I don't like the cattle grid looks of the wire mesh ones. As it goes almost right on the lense, there is no light reflected back like others and , IMO, it's not that noticable. If someone wants to steal it, well they must need it more than me, but it's been on for two years now with no problems. It's pretty cheap too compared to the rest. It came with white velcro jobbies, but I had some black velcro lying about and used them instead.

Those wire ones aren't road legal I understand. (there again neither is a lot of other things on my bike - I'll get my coat :D)

I think you'll find that most headlight protectors aren't road legal due to the way light is reflected through them. From that point of view, I would have thought that mesh was better than acrylic, but the law disagrees ... Mind you, the only time you would probably be picked up on 'illegal' headlight protectors were if you were involved in an accident after dark, or if the local plod was having a particularly dull day (and I am sure, in that instance, they would politely advise you to remove the protector rather than issue a ticket).

What's the difference between polycarbonate and plastic? The wire mesh ones look alright but how do they stop the smaller stones? Whats the exchange reate between us and the us? Too many questions for a sunday!

how does the bmw one fit ? it looks like it screws into the black plastic surround but i've no holes there ???
