is there a way to turn the headlight off on a 2009 1200 gs, i've found the instructions about holding the cancelling switch then the right turn switch, but it doesn't work on mine, i also read it only works on older models. is there a way to do it on newer models. :beerjug:

Its the second today shouldn't this have been posted yesterday?

Hold the Cancel button for 5 seconds then straight afterwards the right Indicator button for a further 5 seconds.

The bike should be idling in Neutral.

The lights will switch off - however some of the bikes switch the lights back on after a c few minutes!

:blast:blast:blast:blast ta goose just tried it again and guess what, yep it works, i swear i was trying all day yesterday, honest.

Why would you want to turn the headlight off?

When riding off road, it is desirable to turn off the ABS. However after stopping for a rest, you turn on the ignition and the ABS is reset. There is then a chance you'll forget this, till you need to stop on a gravely track where you really don't want the ABS kicking in.

Therefore being able to turn off the headlight, means that you can now stop the engine with the kill switch and not worry about flattening the battery. :thumb2

Also, when travelling in some countries, the locals are sometimes annoyed/confused by the foreingers who ride with their fe**ing lights on in broad daylight. So I've read. :nenau

after overtaking a boyracer on the motorway today i was thinking he was admiring my new HID headlight, but his gesticulations proved different.after allowing him to pass me i then followed him for a couple of miles just for my own amusement really :D, but it just got me thinking wether i could turn them off if need be.

You could just disconnect the front ABS sensor under the tank (which is how I think the BMW off road school does it.) Just follow the wire from the front wheel up the fork and under the edge of the tank to find a connector.

Don't do this on servo brakes though as it will probably disable them.
It will result in the yellow triangle being on.
