Just wondering if anyone who has done any spannering on an early/old school BMW Airhead can assist ?

I`ve just removed a knackered set of headraces from my 650 Ural.

The Ural original fitment is cup and cone with separate ball bearings and I had a new set of these at the ready...but all the while I was preferring to have taper rollers.

As it happened, when I stripped the Ural this morning,it actually has been previously fitted with taper roller type.
I`ve phoned around my local suppliers for new replacements but none of them have replacements in stock or available....they keep saying 'It`s an odd size bearing.'

The rumble in the Ural Jungle is that what I`m after was fitted to early Series BMW Airheads so I`m wondering if any of you can verify this and maybe suggest a supplier ?

The taper rollers I need are

51mm OD
34mm ID
12mm Depth

Cheers in advance. :beerjug:

The series /5, /6 and /7 all use bearings of 28mm x 52mm x 16mm. :thumb.

Thanks for that info. :thumb2

:blast :blast

And thanks for that too....:toungincheek

I actually bought my cup and cone bearings from F2 and am friendly with David Angel, the proprietor of the place.
I`m quite a frequenter of his website too...and never even noticed the taper rollers on it.
David never mentioned them either when I bought the `orrible original type.
Mind you,he was probably ecstatic at selling some of the originals. :D :augie

Thanks,Moto. :beerjug:
