After changing the brake fluid for a friend in his 05 RT

Fluid change went okay but I was a little concerned at the low flow rate of the rear brake but the pedal felt like that when it came in

So I wheels it out today and the rear pedal is distinctly wishy washy!!!

Bearing in mind I've been doing this for years I know you screw the cap down and a 1/4 turn sorts it

Look at these What do you think ????

So if you have a 1200RT have a wee look see if your reservoir hose is twisted

It was so bad it took 8 complete turns to unwind that!! it was last fiddled with at the dealers to have a fluid change a year and a bit ago!

What's worse I couldn't understand what was wrong so I had to completely strip the panels tank etc etc to get to the ABS unit to see what was wrong

I thought it was a master cylinder failure and was staring to strip off the rear master cylinder when my fingers brushed the "knot" in the pipe and I wondered what the hell is that

The vacuum created flushing the fluid thru had flattened the pipe and it must have sucked some back to create the spongy brake

Now all sorted But F*** me another 3 hours for that And No I haven't seen that before

Learning Curve! :green gri :green gri :green gri May I refer to you to Post38 Link

I've tweaked the picture in photoshop so we can see the knotty problem a little more clearly, I would guess if you took that back to the dealers they would deny all knowledge and just blame you.

Mate of mine had his throttle stick wide open riding home from a dealer service, the throttle cable had been badly re routed :blast

Same mate, different BMW and dealer, both under tank hydraulic reservoir caps were left completely off after a service, oil had spilled out and took paint off before we found it months later :blast

Myself, dealer didn't fully tighten all the screws that hold the left front disc to the carrier, one screw was slack tight (glued tight with lock thread, but not torqued down), you could get your nail in under the screw head, result disc loose at one point causing uneven wear and now brakes pule again :blast

Oddly, nothing seems to go wrong when we do it ourselves, and that's despite us not having dealer technician training

I can't really say anything Ebbo I was a tech at the dealer and I don't put mistakes to bad mechanics I put it down to being rushed and pushed by the "system!" and a bad working environment

When I was there There was no training, No Backup, dropped in at the deep end and had to work to BMW schedules My body was theirs between half 8 and half 5 I ended up going to counselling because I let them get to my mind! (<-- Wish I'd Known Att back then He'd have kept me right :D )

Basically the work environment of a dealer workshop requires someone who is an automaton! Fix A and B as per service sheet But do no more or you will have yer balls cut off

My problem was being too conscientious and cleaning hand marks off with a quick wash of the bike during the test ride up the yard So that it was clean and pristine for owners coming back

Dear lord How Dare I interrupt the busy schedule to report a broken bolt (usually corrosion on a head guard bolt) Or that the calliper was caked with salt and that it really would be safer for the owner/rider to have them cleaned out!

They were not interested in the Workers or even what is worse neither were they interested in their Clients, only in their money!! All they were interested in was the bottom line and getting stuff in and out of the workshop And What if it was a bit stuck or dirty? That Didn't matter! If you were on a job and someone came in you got pulled off the job and were dragged to look at something I hadn;t the intelligence back then to tell them to "Fuck Off" I was busy!!! I was too worried about keeping my Job!

For the first 6 months I provided my own safety boots use my own bike gear for road testing even had to supply My own overalls and when we moved the the new premises the wanker in charge asked me not to wear my Scania overalls?? Yet he had plenty of time to organise dealer ones up till then Dealer ones thats a laugh my Scania ones were and Are ten times the schite they provided me!! I haven't crossed the door since I walked out back in August 2004
I'm still friendly with a few of the guys that are still there! but I have NO respect at all for that money grabbing slimey Fuckwit running the place! I wouldn;t cross the road to piss on him if he was on fire! That bastard nearly put me in a mental asylum instead of sitting down with me and having a "chat" and finding out what the problems were

Sorry Blood Boiling Apologies for the Rant But Damn it felt good!
