Today I sent my SRL and wired earbuds back to the installer to have her give a listen to them with my earbuds, her earbuds and just with the Harman Kardon speakers. Since she's an audiologist with hopefully better trained ears than mine, I'm hoping she can tell me whether I'm imagining this or not.
I did get a response from Sena just now.....
Hi Larry,
I have forwarded your case to my senior technician for further assistance.
Regarding the 3.5mm audio adapter you soldered directly to the PCB of the SRL-Mesh in an effort to use wired earbuds, it’s great to hear that the setup is functioning. However, it’s important to note that this type of modification falls outside of Sena’s intended design and support scope, as the SRL-Mesh does not include a built-in 3.5mm audio output like the 20S or 50S models.
The sound imbalance you're experiencing could be due to a driver mismatch between the SRL-Mesh amplifier and the wired earbuds. The SRL-Mesh is specifically tuned for use with the Harman Kardon speakers, which may be contributing to the imbalance when using your current setup.
Unfortunately, since this is a hardware-level modification, we’re unable to offer formal support or recommendations. However, if you wish to continue exploring this setup, you might consider using different earbuds with a different impedance rating to see if that improves the sound quality.
When you did the splice, did you open up the speaker halves and tap into the existing speaker wires and run leads out? And with this, the sound quality, clarity, bass/treble, etc. is pretty much the same with the speakers or the earbuds?
