Just wondering if anyone had used ultimate ear protection. I really need to do something to invest in my long term hearing and came across these on the web - www.ultimateear.com

Anyone have any feedback or recommendations on their products.

thanks in advance :thumb

feedback, ear protection... pun intended? :D

I use in the ear headphones which have the dual purpose of keeping the noise out and I can also listen to music :beerjug:

I have something similar (custom molded, but not Ultimate Ear), very effective. Mine have a very small hole through them, allows normal sound to be heard but moderates the damaging wind noise etc.

Cheap foam plugs (the yellow EAR ones and similar) are effective and can be used multiple times (until they get too dirty, an individual call). Start using some now, while you're making up your mind on the custom plugs.

Excellent product in terms of cutting out bad noise and providing fantastic quality music right into the ear drum, but early versions (i.e. mine) are a bit flimsy and I've had to pay for them to be repaired several times now.

The new design looks more substantial.

I have both types from Ultimate Ear;
a) Squidgy type for day to day - going to work type thing.
b) Monitors for two up riding with SWMBO and listening to my music.

Now have the new model monitors after having to get them repaired after five years of use - now much better than the old ones.

Very good products and do what they say:D

Me and the missus have the Squidgy tip monitors, fantastic, all day comfort and less noise. You really notice the difference if you ride without them. Highly recommended if slightly on the pricey side (you only have one set of ears though so why abuse them) :thumb2

I bought the Ultimates at the NEC last year (08) and (after a long wait for delivery) have been very pleased with them. I have both std and speaker and I love having the music. The sound quality is better than I expected. Even use them in the Landy!!!!
Wear all day comfort as well:thumb2

I got the monitors after spending years with the throw-away green jobbies and a few years using Shures for sound isolation and music combined. My thinking was i should get the best sound protection rather than use good sound plugs that do a good job of keeping noise out too.

Problem is I just can't get on with them and I thought I was pretty good with my ears not being sensitive to buds/plugs/etc inserted into them. After an hour or so they are very painful so I' ended up spending ~£150 on something I can't use. The moulds are taken when you are sitting still and moving aout on the bike, looking to the side etc moves the ear canals which I gather give problems for some. Friends have managed to get used to them in time but not me.

Maybe they are for you and you'll be fine. Just order them in a nice colour so they look OK left on the side collecting dust if they don't!
