heated clothing

At least Keis have listened to one criticism. I see that they have put what I take to be the temperature controller, on the body of the glove. That is much more useful than putting it on the glove’s cuff.

Yes that is the controller with 3 setting of 100%, 66% and 33%.

PS You know we’ll now get the mildest winter on record, don’t you?

Not here in south wales. Just going from Newport to Abbergavenny the temp drops by 5 or more degrees on a cold morning.

I ride earlier in the day to, before its had any chance to warm up. It only starts getting warmer when i get home.

We have the same thing here in the south east. If I go for an early Chunnel, I might leave home in central London in the early summer, with the overnight temperature already at around 18 degrees, just about warm enough for my mesh suit. Crossing over into the flat countryside of Kent, can see the temperature drop down into single figures, very quickly.

The thinish electric base layer might well be good for just such a day.

That’s why I went Keis when my Gerbing gloves died. It was one of the few that didn’t mean the control would be under the sleeve.

They’re still a PITA though when you want to change the heat level. Changing the right glove is easy, use the left hand. Changing the left glove means trying to hold it against the bar end (or using cruise control)

On the Keis Jackets/Vests, How much of a pain is it to find the controller under your jacket when riding.

They dangle on a cable. How difficult you’ll find it, only you will know.

Just buy the remote controller and you’ll never need to find out.

Cable is long enough for it to never be a problem.

Warm n safe not as bulky as keis and is warm without being switched on.

My replacment Keis Heated Jacket came yesterday.
To help others with sizing for Keis heated jackets, here is my view of sizing.

I take a UK48 Jacket, so ordered a UK46 Keis heated Jacket. I found the UK46 to big.
I returned it to swap for a UK44 which is a great fit which is still not to tight on me.
So if you like me were unable to try one on for size, a good start is to go 2 sizes small than your textile jacket. Also if you have a slim belly, you may be ok with another size smaller.
But if your a fat buggers like me, its only a dream to go 3 sizes smaller to fit, so stick with a just going 2 sizes down :ROFLMAO:

That's very interesting and I wish I had known it earlier :).

I asked Moto central what size I (a skinny but tall 39/40 inch chested bloke) should order. I was thinking 48 but they suggested 50....which is too large for me even though it's labelled Small!! So thinking i might go to 46 having read your post.

Went down to Motolegends, Guildford and bought the Warm’n’Safe heated base layer. I already have a spare dual controller / receiver.

Served by the Twat in the Hat, who was very helpful.

I think I’ll buy myself some Warm’n’Safe heated gloves. I do have my Rapid Fire heated liners, but flexibility and choice is always good. They only had XL (too large) and small (too small) in stock, but the fresh stock comes in, in a day or so.

I went down to Guildford today and bought the gloves.

Size large. I normally take anywhere between a size 10 and 11 in Rukka gloves.

Warn and safe heated underlayers here

They run at less wattage that the mid layer jackets, as they are designed to be worn next to the skin

Dont let that fool you, You can still brand the heating element pattern into your skin if you wind the power to 11, DAMHIK :blast :D

Sizing is accurate , and warm and safe reccomend snug fitting

Howver there sock sizing is way off , so i returned the socks (to small)

The heated inner gloves are good, but not waterproof, so if your outer gloves leak, be prepared to get electric shocks from the inners as they get wet

(Muffs help, but given you need to keep wiping your visor, gloves get soaked) i'm going with the diesel inner gloves this year ;)

So i have warm and safe top, overlayed with a merino wool top and then my textile jacket which has a removable gortex liner

Bottoms are a bit more complex

Warn and safe long johns, moto skiveez pants for some padding with merino long johns over them ,

Then i have my textile inner liners followed by my textile trousers

And as backup / support, i have my Richa waterproof jacket & trousers
Hi Can you tell me what the fuse rating should be for the + supply feed. I have warmnsafe heated jacket with the gloves. TIA

I’ve never really used heated clothing as only tend to ride locally on the island in the winter at low ish speeds and not for more than an hour .
I did have a heated Keis vest a few years ago but hardly used it so sold it.
But my Wing is always due for a service in January and I’ve decided to no longer get it serviced locally.
So with that in mind I’m off to UK next week then onwards to Brittany for a few days.
So I’ve invested in a Keis B601 ultraflex vest.
Then I saw the forecast for next week so also ordered some Keis heated pants.
Plus I’ve bought some Halvarsson warm base layers , as my Rukka ones are quite thin.
The heated pants and base layers turned up today so tried it all on and sat on bike with it powered up.
Very very toasty.
Should be fine combined with RST heated gloves , but they are battery only so may not last more than a couple of hours .
I also bought a 15000 mAh battery off Amazon together with an adapter so I can wear the heated vest on other bikes without a power supply to bike battery.
Cost me less than half the price of the official Keis battery and is three times the capacity so should last six hours or so .

The forecast for next week has warmed up but it’s still going to be chilly with highest temperatures of around 7 degrees and a fair bit cooler and wet when I get spat off the ferry at 0400 next week.
Should be interesting.

Arsey, would you mind providing the link for the battery on Amazon please?

You’ll need the adapter too to allow the 5.5 x 2.1 mm male DC plug from your Keis jacket/pants fit the 4 x 1.7 mm female input on the battery.
I got 20% off the battery for some reason when I went to check out (not VAT as had to use a UK address as Amazon generally won’t post batteries here )

I get about 4 to 5 hours on my RST heated gloves left on medium. They've been fantastic.

Thanks Arsey. Just occurred to me that I already have a 20000ma power bank with USB output, maybe I should try to find a converter plug from my Keis to USB?

Depends on the output . The official Keis 5000 mah battery has 3.4 amp output . My battery is 3.0. Some are only 1.2
