Hi

Only one grip is warming on both settings (RHS) anyone know why this might be? do the elements go? loose connection?

Cheers all

It could be that the element is damaged. You can carefully peel off the handguard and you will see the element is coiled around. If it is damaged, you will see it and you can solder it back together.

When refitting the handgrip, spray the inside of the grip with hairspray. It will then slide on easily and when it's dry it will stick it back on.

It's usually the L/H side that fails due to it being the side that's constantly pulled on when putting the bike onto the center stand. ;)

Repair or replace.

+1 on lifting for the center stand causing the failure.

I hope you don't mind a quick related question..:augie
My GSA1150 has fully working but very warn (almost sticky) grips.
Are you suggesting that I can peel off and replace the grips leaving the heating elements intact? That would be great if so.

Heated grips

Yes,, they can easily be replaced but DON'T use hair spray as it's not required and it will make getting them off again at a later date more difficult, they all get worn away to nothing. My left one was taped up with pvc tape which comes off when hot, whist on a recent tour through Denmark the clutch lever caught in a loop of loose tape and caused great consternatrion as I thought thats it, where's the RAC!. But on stopping found the prob!, said a little prayer and carried on so DO change them over not dificult but two sets of grips will be required as you only need the throttle side. Get these from any bike catalouge as these are much cheaper than BM ones and other colours are available. Handle bar muffs are far better and don't go wrong!.
Apparently thse heated grips were have been fitted to snow mobiles for donkeys years so not a BMW invention. Cut these off with a pair of side cutters not a stanly knife.

Fixed (soldered the element) marvelous :) cheers

Fitted 2 BM new grips, cost £12 delivered, I like these grips, and if you have to buy 2 sets of non std to get both throttle one's it'll cost you £12 for half tidy ones.
