Anyone using a heated (plug-in type) jacket on their 800?

I've been doing a bit of trawling around and a couple of people appear to be saying that you cannot run a jacket off the accessory socket?:nenau

I was given a Keis heated waistcoat last Chrimbo, but I ran it off a direct connection to the battery - the cable (ring connectors one end, inline socket the other) was supplied with the waistcoat.

(I was going to reply "yes" until I remembered the extra cable :blast)

It has a 5 amp load limit, it just trips out. You cant run a compressor off it either I discovered, its pants.

As above, you need to fit an alternate fused socket direct from the battery. Centech do a nice fuse panel but bear in mind it wont be controlled by the canbus.

My Gerbings jacket came with a fused lead which I just connected to the battery and led the wire out between the seat and the "tank" panel - it's a good position to connect to the plug in the jacket.

On a long trip, I'll use a tank bag to carry an autocom , ipod etc and I connect that to the Canbus connector. My satnav is already connected to the spare Canbus socket under the plastic. If I needed more gadgets I'd use a Centech or similar.

I rewired the original 5 Amp canbus socket directly to the battery, via a 15 Amp inline fuse fuse,http://www.rapidonline.com/Electric...w/26-1585?source=googleps&utm_source=googleps so that I can run my heated jacket, standard bike charger, tent power without it cutting off after 3 minutes, compressor etc. The 2 wires that originally went to the socket (those 5 Amp canbus ones) I use to directly power my Autocom therefore, it comes on and off with the key and is current protected.

Thanks for the info, guys.

Yes, my concern is the load placed on the accessory socket. I never thought about not being able to run a compressor off it either (that fecks that idea, then). It looks like it's going to be easier to run an accessory lead straight off the battery.

I've got a couple of BMW type plug/sockets, courtesy of Jaythro of this parish, time to get the toolbox out, methinks.

yeah, i've a centech block ready and waiting a keis vest for the winter. be a couple of months yet before i'll need it hopefully.

Hi,

Just returned (Yesterday) from a 2600 mile round trip from Manchester to France, Switzerland, Italy & then France again, used my BMW heated jacket that plugged into the accessory socket, I had the Zumo 550 & Autocom running at the same time.

No problems at all, jacket kept me nice & warm especially on the last leg from Portsmouth back to Manchester.

So no probs here :D

We're not all like you young Himalaya-bashing types, chuckin' yersens into frozen rivers and sleeping outside in just yer kecks at 18000ft, you young pup.:robSome of us old duffers feel the cold y'know, Nursey sometimes forgets to put a blanket over my knees when we go to the Park.

I just hope you'll take pity on a frozen senior citizen the next time we meet, and warm him up.........:augie:D

Anyway, I'm working on a long-term Master Plan which involves some sort of heat source and me not getting hypothermia.:thumb
