Heated Jacket Switching Off After Ten Minutes ??

I have a Weider heated vest that I connect to the auxiliary socket under the seat. It works fine for about ten minutes then turns off. If I turn the ignition off then start the bike again, the heated vest works again....for about ten minutes.

Anyone know what the problem is ? I'm guessing that the system thinks that it's drawing too uch power and shuts the aux power down ??

Is there a way around it ?

That sounds pretty much spot on, the socket has a 5amp max draw which is marginal for something like heated clothing.

The only way round this is to run a fused supply direct from the battery, thus bypassing the Canbus system..................or get a jacket with a lower current draw.

My BMW vest does the same thing, it seems that the canbus will tolerate a small overload for a few minutes then disconnect.

Which is why BMW stopped selling their heated vests, which are very good if you replace the shoddy connector at the end of the cord.

FWIW/info I use an Aerostich heated fleece (arms and torso heated) and this doesn't trip out the Canbus.

My Keis heated waiscoat also doesn't trip on my 650 twin.

If it did I'd get one of the NN fuzeblocks for about £65, take the power feeds off the battery, and the trigger for the relay off the accessory socket, and then have a DIN plug somewhere convenient to plug the heated jacket into. Simples

BMW used to do an extra accessory socket kit for the 1150GS that piggy backed off the socket down by your left foot and could be run all the way up to the beak for powering a GPS etc. They were about £15 from memory .

Buy one of these and wire it directly to the battery . I cant recall if it came fused but if not then just buy an inline fuse holder.

They still do, it doesn't, mine is into a centech panel on the 100GS
