Heated jackets

Whatever you do don't buy the (expensive) BMW one. I had 3 replaced under warranty and once the warranty runs out you're buggered.

I now use an aerostitch one, it has a fleece outer and is very comfortable and more importantly can be repaired (if you sent it back to the US).

I think Gerbing have a lifetime guarantee which is worth having as any clothing with tiny wires running through it is likely to break at some point.

They are good when working - problem is the wires break inside the plug that attaches to the waistcoat - fiddly plug thats difficult to attach when your all zipped up.

I've repaired mine, added heat shrink and put a in line plug where it can quickly and simple be attached when getting on/off the bike.

I've found the Chilli to be a great piece of kit. Had mine for 10 years now although I don't use it so much these days. Totally reliable, nice and warm.:thumb2

I vote Aerostich windblocker fleece. Nice 'n' warm including you arms. BMW plug.

If you buy BMW vest, make it small to fit close, underneath your fleecy things.

I've not had trouble with wearing a back protector.

I'm looking at the Widder stuff..
Decent prices in Septic land with $44 international Express shipping (so with the $ so weak at the moment that's about 115 of yer queen pounds befor ethe Taxman get's his hands on it)
Ebay: 120180364666

Is the High collar version any good or is it worth the hassle?

Heat

I use Gerbing every day, with an Aerostich suit and a backprotector. No problems with overheating backprotector (although only started wearing the Gerbing again until this week!).

Gerbing kept me toasty to Western Sahara and back, through France and Spain mid-January amidst the snow.

Got mine from a dealer in Belgium on ebay.Saves you paying tax.Only problem is that if he doesn't have your size in stock..it'll be around 2weeks for the next shipment from the states...and 2days from Belgium-Eire.
Paid 115euro for the jacket +12.50euro postage.
look up his ebay shop motosens

I've worn a Klan waistcoat for the past four years and it still works very well. Switch fell apart after two winters and have been using it without a switch until recently - meant having to scrabble around to disconnect it when I get off the motorway because got too hot!

Years ago when I was despatching (in the 80s) I met a guy who made his own heated clothing - the gloves were basically two pairs of thin nylon gloves with wires running through them and a basic rheostat - heated your hand well but tended to get minor burns where the wires ran if left on for too long. He was an ex-RAF bloke who lived in a a house with no heating but wore a complete heated suit which he plugged in to a car battery he kept in each room. Total nutter but a hell of a character!

that would be captain maurice seddon. an odd, but very nice man :)

Ive got the widder waist coat now in its 5th year and 3 year ago brought the arms and they make a big differance, its got the high collar which keeps your neck toastie but doesnt suit some jacket collars, only real down side is it only has on or off

Thats the man - Known him for years, but haven't seen him for while, is he still alive ????

The power supply for his indoor heated clothing wasn't run by a car battery in each room. he had a propeller on a mast that charged up a garden full of submarine batteries, which he wired to the house. All very well and cheap. But the downside was that the inside of the house was falling apart due to dampness.

Nearly bought his 1946 VW beetle off him in the late eighties. It was converted to run on LPG, stored in a LARGE metal container on the roof rack :D

Gerbings but get a temperature control as well cos they get very warm and you tend to cook at slower speeds.

steptoe nearly bought that?

:jes

hard to believe.

He wanted a thousand pounds ..

It was sunk down to the engine sump in the garden. It had curtains inside around the windows. He used to live in it while travelling around Europe.

While i sat in it having a rummidge around, i found an unopened tin of spam. Captain Maurice seddon ( signals ret'd) was able to pin down the year of the spam, since he'd been a vegetarian for a number of years.

He has some amazing stories to tell - His father owned a mansion in Hampstead, which they sold to Elgar, due to his father spending all the family money on women and drink .

He still had the old family rolls, a 1934 model. His dad used to get upset if anyone overtook them on the road. used to order the chauffeur to stop, and change places with him. Once the dad had overtaken the other vehicle, the chauffeur was allowed to drive again :D

Mad as a hatter.

The world is far too short of people like him! :D Folk that aren't quite on this planet - the place is better for them.

Widder do a heat controller, I use one with my Chilli waistcoat.

i had a chilli heated waistcoat :thumb before making my own, i allso have some heated seat pads from a volvo that make great cold spot killers:D

I have a chilli. And it's just as it says on the label, "chilli".

it's only a waistcoat, low neck, and not very hot. The only good thing is the heat controller.

I've since made my own heated jacket using the "heat4U" kit ( yes, i know you don't want to make your own) . The best £25 i've spent. Heat just where it suits me (sir). Now i get too hot. Thank god for a thermostat.

Why get a kit when you can have one pre made for the same money?

£25 for the kit ( actually £22 when i bought mine 2 years ago). :nenau used in a doublelined fleece i already owned, where can you get a pre made for the samemoney ?? - Plus you can put the heat where YOU want/need it, not where a manufacture decides.

Oh, plus £12 for the heat controller (but i can use that with other items)
