Heated Seat/AirHawk Pad. Are they compatable?

Hello all... first post here.

Just purchased a 08 R1200GS and intend to explore comfort and heating options, prompting this question:

Has anyone used an AirHawk seat cushion over a heated seat? BWoE the AirHawk is an inflatable (please, not to be confused with my GF :toungincheek ) cushion... see here:

My concerns are that (a) the heated seat will expand the AirHawk seat inflatable compartments, and/or (b) the AirHawk inflated seat will be the perfect insulator and the warmth of the seat below it will not be felt.

Anyone with experience re this combination care to chime in?

The airhawk seat is most effective for comfort when filled with minimal air. Therefore any expansion will be relative and probably within capability. I could understand that fully inflated could be a problem. No experience with heat though :blast

Be aware that there are two versions: cheap plastic and expensive neoprene. I have the former and despite people claiming that the cheap one cannot be repaired, I know that it can.
 
I have an Airhawk and I don't think you would feel much heat coming through it.

A heated jacket might a better option?

Has you GS got a heated seat then? :eek:
 
It sounds like a good plan in theory, but you will have to be careful how much air you put in the Airhawk cushion, because as the seat heats up the air pressure in the Airhawk will increase and you could run the risk of it exploding and consequently ejecting you from the bike. This is something that should be avoided at all cost!!!

I have a home brew heated pad that fits into the Airhawk cover below the cushion - works a treat

An Airhawk merely spreads out around your bum to incrrease the contact area and you effectively sit directly on the seat if you have the right amount of air in it
 
Thanks for advice and replies.

I currently have a stock (standard height) seat, but I'm mulling the options of buying a custom seat w/ heating... or, buying a custom seat w/o heating... or, buying a seat heating element and an AirHawk to use with the pitiful stocker.

Since I'm in (mostly) sunny California (USA) most of you may scoff at the thought of needing a heated seat. Truthfully, I'd only want it 2 -3 months out of the year. But, I do enjoy my comforts :Motomartin

A visual demonstration of why this is not a good idea. Although I can't help but think that my assistant here is not as experienced on a motorcycle as he made out!

YEs, I have attemted to use an Airhawk with heated seat on a K1200GT (brick). Airhawk does not get damaged by the heat, not does it inflate, but it does insulate most of the heat, so you may as well switch it off.

On seriously cold trips, I have personally preferred heat rather than comfort, and in particular in the old K1200GT, the bike was so good insulating you from the elements, that cold was never an issue.
