Why are you regretting not getting the controller then Mike?

It gets quite hot. Of course I have been using it in quite warm ambient temperatures - this is October not February. I made my comment though before I rode home on Monday. That was a very nice toasty warm ride home with the jacket on all the way. What was remarkable was that my arms felt warmer than normal despite the fact that they were not heated. I now wonder whether £40+ is worth it when I suspect I'll have it turned on most of the time as we move into winter proper.

Not remarkable, just science.

Keeping your core temperature up, i.e. the blood leaving your heart is very warm, will ensure that the blood reaching your extremities a few seconds later is still warm.

If your core temperature drops by as little as 2degC then your body starts to restrict the flow of blood to the extremities quite a bit. This sets off a vicious cycle which results in cold toes/fingers.

Yanky Zips

Trouble with USA vests the zip does up the girls way very difficult to get used to if you get it wrong pull up the wrong side then you get stuck wont go up or down this happend to me luckely my girlfriend was with me she had to get on her knees infront of meto fix it then it went up and down VERY nicely .... also the widder i bought in the UK the on off ONLY controller sits by your knee when plugged in to acc socket so any movement or vibration tends to switch it off you only notice when it gets freezing cold then you have to fummble around doing 70/80/90/odd mph with thick winter gloves pain in the Rs Why dont people who try to make shit for bikers try it first

Can't say I noticed the zip, but the on-off switch is a real pain. I have worked out that if I stretch the coiled cable and trap it under my leg I can lift the switch out of the way of my leg and stop it turning off. I shouldn't have to do this though.

Bought a BMW one today from Bath Road Motorcycles for £166, plenty of wire, plenty of warmth and totally satisfied.

Re: USA = sales tax

There is no federal sales tax in the US, if you buy say a jacket from Gerbing and have it shipped to somebody that you know that is out of Gerbings home state there is no sales tax at all.

Remember to add sales tax (local, state and sometimes federal) to the prices quoted in the USA for over the counter sales (mail order = no tax out of state). Depending on the location of the shop these taxes vary from 1% to above 10%. Also check and see if they give discounts for club membership as most dealers over there do give something. You could also ash for a tax free price and show them your airline ticket???

Happy shopping.

Gerbing heated liner arrived last Friday.
Couple of run outs including a 'wet' one. Liner can be TOO HOT (!!!) the thermostat is essential. Solid piece of kit, feels like it'll last. Heated collar is especially luxurious.
Well recommended.

Having read all the preceeding posts I bought a Klan waistcoat from the NEC today. Seems to do everything I want with a 2 year warranty

Also bought a Klan waistcoat at the NEC this weekend.

Works a treat, might buy the optional portable battery pack so I can wear it on the golf course as well.

Just got back from a 90 mile ride across the peaks including a very cold and windy Bamford Moor..The Klan works luverly (Is it just me or does anyone else have a bit of a problem with the name...KKK an all that)

Just bought a bmw waistcoat

any comments on which is the best way to run the cable to the bike ?

ie over the bars .under etc etc and does the cable just hang out the bottom of your jacket?

Ah yes ! Tis the season.
I run my cable UNDER my leg (ie between seat and leg) to the socket. I also have the straight part of the cable (just below the control bulb) going through a velcro strap on my leather trousers to stop the cable accidentally pulling out from the waistcoat. This did happen once! You can tuck the control into jacket or waterproof breeks to keep it dry as recommended.
It seems to work OK. The only trouble is changing the setting while on the go. I often turn the bloody thing off completely by mistake and only realise 30 minutes later when I'm starting to get hypothermic.
Incidentally, I once jumped off the bike (diesel, yes, really) while connected via the waistcoat. The bike went spinning off down the road towards a volvo, the cable plug came out of the socket and smashed itself all over the road. BMW sold me a new cable without having to buy a new entire waistcoat. Cool.
