heatshield on or off 1150gsa

do people tend to refit the heatshield when fitting an after market silencer, or go with a new clamp.

just spent hours trying to refit the heatshield, just wouldnt nip up, eventually worked out it was because i wasn't using the original bolt from the heat shield, as it was shagged, the nut i was trying to screw on was too wide

and on that note is that bolt bmw specific or can you get one anywhere, ?

Just any clamp the right size will do it, I personally don't like the BMW one and took a chisel to the shield. Run the clamp bolt between the pipe and the wheel and it looks quite neat.

Same as Ian above. I used to use the heat shield but haven't bothered for years. No-one's ever commented on it...
