How do get on with them?

I now have fitted three sets of the K60s. The original reviews have nearly all been removed from this site. There is a thought that the front should be put on the wrong way around. ie arrow of travel facing backwards. Tsiklonaut started a thread after contacting the manufactrures

I used them the normal way around as I am a scaredy cat and comply with rules and regulations.
The front is noisy though. Moving to road orientated tyres I noticed a big drop in noise and vibration. Having said that neither the noise or vibration ever affected me or worried me.
On a big plus side the wear and grip was amazing. On the minus side long fast motorway work (over three thousand miles) resulted in bad "cupping" of one front. I was however taking the tyres beyond their speed rating for several hours at a time. In normal use I often wondered if they would ever wear out as it seemed impossible to get rid of the little nipples for a while.
If I was to do any green lanes or tracks they would be my first choice still. The alternative are TKCs which are just as good but a lot more expensive the last time I looked. Having had both on my 1150 I would just favour the Heidenau as the TKCs have on a couple of occasions broken away from me (in the wet) in a less predictable manner than the Heidenaus
Have fun:thumb

Great Information Paul, and Thank you for your time.I will be re-booting with the K60'S and see how I get on.:)
Thanks again.:thumb:thumb

I too love the K60's on my F800. Have done 4000 miles on everything from gravel and mud tracks, to autoroute all the way through France and Spain. Reckon they're about half worn...

K60's may be fine on an F800 but IMHO they are NOT suitable for the heavier, more powerfull 1100/1150/1200s . I've run them on my 1150GSA and my R100GSPD in every case they have cracked very badly (Dangerously?) around the base of the blocks on the rear tyres.

It was not just an isolated bad tyres as I tried a couple of sets but in each case I ended up junking them for safety sake well before the end of their legal life... With the unused tread taken into account TKCs would have been a cheaper option !

Incidentally, the cheapest way I've found to get TKCs, is take a bimble down to Aberystwyth to Cambrian Tyres (the main Importer) on a Saturday morning bright an earler and get then fitted while you wait. I usually have the wheels off by the time they arrive at 8.30am and I'm on my way by 9 to give them a nice little scrubbing in!:D

Curios. I am on my second set, 10,000 miles a pair on my 1200GSA and cannot fault the K-60. I have definitely not seen any cracks, my second set is due for replacement soon because I am near the tread wear indicators.

There are a few others on these pages that have positive views of the tyres. Most negative experiences seem to be related to the wear rate of the front, and the noise. I do not doubt that you have had these issues, maybe they were related to a bad "batch".

Maybe the lardy old 1150GSA is just too much for them :nenau

Two points:-

1) The front tyre originally supplied for the GS was a rear for lighter bikes and that is why the directional arrow had to be reversed for use on the front. The current tyres supplied as front should be fitted with the arrow correctly orientated.

2) The cracking of blocks was identified by Tsiklonaut and covered in one of his reports. The factory amended the compound and current tyres are apparently much better. Additionally I believe that the ones he originally used for the rear were 140 section. The factory has been working with some riders in South Africa to develop a GS sized (150) tyre which is what is now avaliable.

I have a set waiting to be fitted to my 1150GS once I've extracted full value from the existing Tourances:)

In BMW sizes

This advrider link suggest that Heidenau K60s may be available in BMW sizes soon though some strange comments about the the compound

Thanks for the replies.:thumb
Generally they seem to be fairly positive towards the K60.
As far as i can determine there seem to be period of 'trials' with the tyres, and they now seem to have got it right.
I still have a good feeling about them and will get them fitted.
Thank you all again...an interesting discussion:thumb:thumb

I fitted my second rear K60 yesterday. 4600 miles from the first one so not brilliant tyre life and that's on my humble 100PD. No sign of any cracks on mine but they have been badly squared off for the last 1000 miles. The front hardly looks worn at all and feels much better than it did when new.

They are passable off road and light years ahead of TKC's on the road. I think the Metzler Sahara 3's are a much better tyre though.

...

10,000 miles on a pair, i.e. rear? :eek That sounds great! How far "down" have you taken them? Still legal or have you turned them into "racing slicks" :D

I get max 4,500 miles out of a TKC rear tire and I'm NOT heavy on the throttle. The K-60 looks like a very nice alternative to the TKC. Gotta try'm

Still got plenty of tread left, strangely the front seems to wear quicker than the rear and is closer to the TWIs. I used to get similar out of TKCs too.
