Heidenau K60

Whats the consensus on these when on wet/cold tarmac? .
Can´t say, round my neighbourhood the tarmac is very rough - more stone, less asphalt, so not much of a problem. Very grippy if I compare it to a super sport tyre on a wet race track which is scaaaary!

They arrived yesterday, considering they were sent from Germany (not sure if direct from Heidenau themselves or a storage unit owned by oponeo), but considering they were only ordered on Wednesday that's a pretty impressive turnaround!

Hopefully get them fitted weekend after next :D

Just returned from 4 hours GGGRRRREAT afternoon trip through muddy and vvveery slippery gravel roads. I just cant stop admiring those Heidenaus how they work on every surface! You can find better tyres for tarmac or muddy, but a tyre for real allround purpose which is better is hard to find, period!

Ordered mine yesterday from www.oponeo.co.uk

Price has moved up to £163.00.

Good luck with the website it has to be one of the more frustrating ones I have ever used!:blast

See what you mean! The site has changed since I last looked when I boughtt mine. Can't even find the K60's now either :-(

Oddness...

Greetings from a sunday afternoon trip. It seems that Heidenaus are run flat tyres too. My front startet to act strangely sharp and sounded louder. I tried to figure out whats the problem for some spirited 10mls, was it different grade of gravel on part of road or what. Then I asked the next guy does my front look flat - yes it does! Zero pressure, for quite long already and the tyre was still perfectly seated on the rim. I pumped it up and the journey continued, guys went along and I headed back home to repair the leak.
Just incredible how the tyre stayed seated so I could ride it hard on the gravel roads!

I threw 200+mls trip on no black top roads yesterday with the big boys. No problem what so ever with pressures nor with grip. Just great tyre which suits my war elephant GSA perfectly

TKC's do the same.

Just be careful as the bead can break suddenly - and then you are eating dirt quicker than a whore can get her knickers off.

K60

Hi

bit confused:nenau when you are ordering set of k60 have you guys been getting scouts or are you ordering just K60 front and back, looked at posts and tyre sites still not sure what to order, Help appreciated, want to put them on for dragon rally, but will leave them on if i get on with them through the summer as well.

I think that you'll find the original style K60's have been withdrawn in the GS sizes. You need to order the K60 Scouts which have been redesigned to better suit the heavy bikes.

Look here:- http://www.reifenwerk-heidenau.de/m...3a92a84436971f12ba48552866f&profil=162&pic=99

P.S. To see the latest tread pattern from the above link go to the home page and see the News section

I'm not certain that they actually DID a 'GS sized rear in the 'old' K60....I ended up running a 130 section rather than a 140, 'cos they didn't do a 140 then :nenau

The do the 'scout' version, the new one, in the 140 though.

The difference is mainly in the centre-block...on the original K60, the blocks were separate, but now, on the ' k60 scout' version, the centre block is continuous, which is why I suspect people are reporting more squirmy behaviour on banding and wet roads

Looking at the Heidenau webiste (as linked above) there still seems to be confusion TBH.....the one on their site, which they call 'scout' is NOT the one I know as the scout....it's the 'old' version.

THIS is the 'scout pattern, with the continuous central block

yet from the heidenau website and various resellers, THIS is what is being shown, and called the 'scout' version:

Have ordered a set, see what they are like when they turn up, £153 delivered. i normally run the original tourance but thought i might give these ago, ordered scouts m+s in 110 and 150 size as per sizing chart

I ran a set of the originals with a 150 section rear, standard for the oilhead boxer GS's. This was the pattern still shown on the site in smaller sizes for the standard K60. It had no circumferential rib at all. It was then withdrawn as a 150 and modified to produce the pattern shown in the second image above for the rear and was then called the Scout. This was then superseded by the pattern shown in your top image with a very much bigger centre web linking the blocks.

I suspect that the redesign is an attempt to stop the blocks ripping off the carcass of the tyre under the stress of the big boxers etc. which a few people had complained about. It will also give a longer touring life but I don't know what the downside will be in mud. I got over 7,000 miles from the original design so unless the rubber compound has changed the newest version should give exceptional mileage.

I believe that their website is a bit out of date with the intermediate design still showing as the Scout in the tyre detail section but the new and latest design showing as the Scout in the news section:thumb2

Vader is running a new rear in his 12 and is very happy with it , the last was the old K60 and he got about 10k out of it , so the continuous block should feel a bit smoother , and wear a little better:thumb2

Thanks Chad, should get them fitted next week, do you know if the directional arrows on tyres are ok now, i noticed from earlier threads some where installed with arrow reversed, have sent a e mail to Heidenau just to check:augie
