Heidenau Tyres

Anyone looking to buy soon. Fancy doing a joint purchase to save postage costs. I can bring them along to the NW meet.

Also if you have previously bought these tyres for an 1150GS : How do you feel they compare to Tourances for grip , particularly damp / wet weather grip 2 up or fully loaded?

'Feel' + 'grip' are rather subjective, but I found they were there or thereabouts the same as Tourances in the dry, slippier in the wet but not as bad as TKCs in the wet. Wobble over white lines and catseyes.

Front lasts around 6000, rear 8000.

I've just bought some and they worked out after the exchange as £97 delivered.
Too early to give an accurate impression on grip but so far so good.

True.........maybe I should say that despite 21 yrs experience I am not a really fast nor a particularly 'talented' road rider. All my riding is done on the road, a lot of it 2 up, so I would never buy TKCs and I would be buying the Heidenaus mainly on cost grounds.

I am probably not competent enough to tell a good tyre from a very good tyre, but I guess I really wanted to know that I wasn't buying something that was very lacking in the grip dept' in an emergency situation or if I make an error of judgment.

For example a mate took a 12ADV for a test spin and he said it was really vague and the rear would let go with the TKCs fitted ( dry roads , winter temps) he was very concerned about grip levels and I read similar stories in the mags.

Is the Tourance "dual sport" tyre purely a road tyre and if so is it any more of a road tyre then the Heidenau? Sounds like it is from your comments Cookie.

I need new tyres now and then I'm possibly doing 3 trips ( if all goes well) in the space of 6 weeks with a total mileage of 4,500 approx which would leave me with a pair of seriously knackered Tourances for the rest of the summer season unless I immediately splash out on a further set . That means we are talking £400 on tyres in 12 weeks

Somehow i've already managed to knacker a front Tourance in less than 12mths, rear is still OK, whereas my previous set lasted 2 years.

Sounds like the Heidis will cost half as much which is very appealing.

Yep, I'd agree.... and I was hoping that's what the Heidi was but it sound like your experience tells me different

Still might consider the Heidi for me holidays though as I never really 'go for it' when I'm two up , then the second trip will possibly be a one up Lands End to JOG 24 hr run with some other guys in the NW who r going , which doesnt really call for 'ultimate grip' either and then its the Hogroast combined with a visit to my sister in Poole.

I get 14,000 out of the rear on both sets i've had on. David must be doing doughnuts in Morries carpark.

High profile makes them crap for going around corners. Don't listen to the BS about them being able to corner like tourances - that's rubbish.

It might be Morries oop North, but down here I use Waitrose supergrippy grippy stuff .

Just to clarify, I ride like a poof, it was all tarmac use commuting into and out of London.
Snoopy you're right, ultimately they're not as grippy as Tourances but for general faffing about they're fine. Obviously they would be much better than Tourances off-road.

Because most of the next 4,000 miles are going to be upright, 2 up and with luggage .....................except for this bit

Go for Trcator tyres, your so slow and they will last you for ever.

Might find a cheap pair in Latvia on the way.
