As the title implies, I'm 5' 8.5'' (the 0.5'' is important to me ;) )with a 30" inside leg and I'm hankering after a 1200 GSADV.

Advise please, would I have a problem getting on the damn thing and coming to a stop. I know that the seat height is adjustable but I sat on one at Beaulieu this weekend and had to lean the bike over to get one toe on the ground

Platform boots are coming back in fashion, in fact here in Wales I don't think they ever went out of fashion

Dukesteve,
fret not me old china, I am only 5'7 3/4, i have got one with a low seat, after 1 week am thinking of putting the normal one on, yes, it can be a bit dicey when loaded with a 15st pillion and big bag, but we managed to get through the M25 filtering on friday afternoon.

go for it, its a hoot

Thanks guys. Did you need to buy a new seat or any other accessories to lower the seat or is it simply a case of fiddling with the standard settings to lower it?
Thanks again and thanks for moving my post to the correct area Tarka

One problem might be if you carry a pillion, and jack up the preload beforehand. Before the pillion gets on, the bike's ars* is going to be a long way off the ground and you'll be on tippy-toes.

dukesteve.

I think you are going to need a special low seat. I have inseam of 30" and found the ADV too tall for comfort in the traffic. once you are moving at anything more than 15mph, its a doddle to control, but .... if you need to come to a sudden stop in traffic and need to get a foot down in a hurry you are going to have your hands full (more so if the tank is full). for open road touring it's a wonderfull beast, but for commuting ...

someone did post pics of a special seat a while ago- looked really good - probably found in the search somewhere.

as a matter of interest what is the 12gsadv going to do for you that the 12gs won't in the real world. 12 gs lower, easier to ride plenty of add on bits and pieces if you want to make the 12gs look more "agressive"? why struggle??? how many people really do the round the world adventure? or come to that even go off road!!

Surely this debate has now officially gone away Please!!!

But to precis: Bigger fuel tank and better screen :thumb

not particularly wishing to re-open debate i appeared to have missed but... dearer bike, heavier, questionable looks? also i would think most people happy with 150-180 mile tank range and usually quite happy to get off for drink/petrol stop etc. £100 sorts out screen :thumb

So why do it? And, if you are going to re-open the debate, why not do it on a new thread? And, if you really really want to do it, why not ask why people buy the unreliable, plastic, ugly 1200 instead of the much superior 1100/1150/1150A Tonka Toy? :D

ps. I have a 1200

They get 'smaller' with use

I'm not tall, 5"9', and with any tall bike i have had (12GS, Tiger, Dominator) they feel awkward unless used every day or atl east very frequently. Once you have the instinctive balance frequent use gives, the bike shrinks beneath you. I also have a Aprillia RSVR and that feels cumbersome and uncormfortable until we have gelled again (oohh er)

5foot 8.5 the same 29" inside leg got a 1200GSA no problems have fitted the std 1200GS low seat purley to enable the fitment of my airhawk which brings toe height back to std GSA no probs :thumb
