Looking at a pair of these in the shop today - anyone got any experience/recommendations? Used to riding Rallye 2 pants, but trying to stay away from the full BMW suit look! :ymca: Just want these for general hacking around. Live in Scotland so something waterproof (even in June) and warmish would be ideal.

Also - they're £220 in the shop, but are £150 on the HG website - am I missing something?

Any feedback much appreciated.

Thanks :beerjug:

the pants are very good topper,as i work for Hein Gericke i can confirm this, the price may be wrong but it would depend whether they are a gore-tex or shelltex membrane, goretex being more expensive,go and see Adam at the Edinburgh store,he will talk you through the pants anyway

Won't he be a bit muffled? :nenau

I think topper was looking for feedback from riders who had used HG Maxwell Trousers, not from somebody that worked for Hein Gerricke and said they are very good but dosn't even know whether they have a gore-tex or shelltex membrane. They actually have a sheltex membrane.

They are £150 in my local shop (Glasgow) and in the HG 2007 catalogue. HG Cruise trousers are £220.

I have HG trousers with a sheltex membrane and they are certainly not 100% waterproof. Though I do have HG boots with Sheltex which are waterproof. My HG Cruise jacket with goretex membrane does however seem to be 100% waterproof and certainly more breathable than sheltex.

HG do a goretex trouser (Entry GTX) for the same price as the HG Maxwell. After GOC I am looking for a decent pair of waterproof trousers. I had a look at the HG PSX Tricky II GTX ones today and they felt comfortable without being too bulky (Cruise ones are bulky). They are £189 but do include hip armour which is a £20 option on the Maxwell or Entry trousers.

The other pair of trousers I quite fancy are Revit Dakars but can't find a stockist in Scotland to see what they are like.

actually Skyenet, you are WRONG,we do have maxwell pants with goretex membrane costing £219.99 and also maxwell pants with shelltex membrane £149.99,also i have had a pair of these pants before so i can give VALID feedback and it is unbiased feedback.
so apologies accepted.

Why didn't you originally say you had a pair of Maxwell pants yourself, then it would have come accross as more unbiased, valid and honest feedback and not just as an employee seemingly plugging their companies products.

I went by the Hein Gerrick cataloque which lists the Maxwell pants at £149.99 and having Shelltex membrane. No sign in my 2007 cataloque or in my local shop of Maxwells with Goretex membrane at £219.99 but of course if they DO EXIST, then I appologise. Bit odd though as one of the range topping HG goretex trousers are the Cruise ones also at £219.99 with loads more features than Maxwell trousers. I know that the range topper is HG PSX XCR GTX but they are Goretex XCR trousers. Ah well you work there so I suppose you know what your talking about ;)

So what's your unbiased opinion on HP PSX Tricky II GTX trousers ?

I don't know about his experience.

I got my Tricky GTX trousers last year after my Voyager Shelltex pants gave up tge ghost - and this had been my 3rd set under warrant,

I was persuaded to upgrade to GTX at a nominal £5 - they were £70 more than the previous trousers.

And NO leaks.

However the little tag on the zipper at the ankle broke off on both legs. I simply put one of those key-ring things through the remaining 'nib' on the zip and all is well. In fact, as the tag is much larger than t original, using the zip is much easier.

Are they quite breathable or do you get sweaty in them ?

Thanks Iain

Mrs CC and I both have had a pair for the last 4 years...never leaked..and we've been through some heavy rain, not least at the Gathering...

My pair do seem to have shrunk a wee bit though over time...:augie :D

Got a 2006 pair, don't like them.
Pockets have no zips, the legs are too short (I got the next waist size up to try and improve this but HG gear now seems to conform to the fat bloke standard sizing that other bike clothing manus use). There is no velcro closure at the bottom so even with the zip done up they flap around and let in drafts and water. The nylon they use is very scratchy so people can hear you walking from a mile off. Can't comment on waterproofness as I have only used them in short duration rain showers (I wouldn't use them in severe weather). My previous kecks were a set of HG Tuaregs (the plain black ones which HG have now dropped in favour of some horrible coloured ones) which also had a sheltex membrane. these were fab and remainied totally waterproof for 3 years. They now leak around the crotch in severe rain but I would still use them if my girlfriend hadn't nicked them.

My mate got a pair of maxwells a few years ago and these were much better than mine. I tried to take the Maxwells back after one ride but HG wouldn't take them - fair enough I suppose but I have got a full refund in the past from HG after taking stuff back which i didn't like.

When it's very hot I do get a tad sticky unless I'm moving on the bike. So, in 20 deg weather great. In 27deg weather, starting to get a bit moist.

That, I think, is a function of GoreTex. It's nowhere near as breathable as the adverts suggest.

I don't think that you should wear anything that is only one letter away from being MaxWall Pants. They'll make you look like you've got duck's disease!:D

Max Wall pants - Why would anybody want to dress like that ??
