Thought I would buy myself a decent jacket for this year so have weeded it down to a HG Cruise or a Rukka Kalahari any advice would be appreciated.

Rukka aint cheap, but I'm 100% happy with mine and I've got a 5 year warranty with it, plus Rukka with loan me a jacket/trousers if I have a problem with mine during that time.
The HG stuff looks good, and I've used a lot of it in the past, but I'm glad I got the Rukka gear that I did, just a shame they didnt have their "offroad" range at the time.

+1. Been using a Rukka jacket for a good few years over many trips and it still looks in good nick and keeps the worst out. Was expensive at the time but I reckon it's paid for itself by now.

Rukka, every time. Great customer service - you really do get what you pay for!
The nice thing is there's no faffing about with inserting GoreTex liners - which of course you've never got in the jacket when it starts raining...

Can't comment on the HG stuff. My Rukka is the only jacket/trousers I've had that has stayed 100% waterproof.

I will be going for Halvarssons or possibly Lindstrands/Jofama next time.
Seem to be as good, if not better and a lot better VFM.

I looked at all the choices and ended up going for Dane kit as reviewed here. Got my stuff from Lo-iQ from this forum. Think he supplies a range of other kit aswell.

I did some temp work a while back with a guy who's wife worked for the cops. She 'acquired' him a set of Rukka kit, one year old, hardly worn (due to plod upgrading to a brand new set).

ive been using the HG cruise for the last 4yrs never let me down even in really shitty weather
I've been using Rukka for some time, as others have said it's not the cheapest, however last Saturday I took my 3 and a bit year old pair of trousers in due to them leaking for the first time. The shop sent them to Rukka for repair and have lent me a brand new pair whilst mine are being repaired. I can't see HG etc doing that.

I really must get mine sent off sometime as the rubber has worn off one of the poppers (along with the paint off a T.W.O. ZX10R

Another vote for the latest Cruise stuff from HG. Lots of nice design features - good waterproof pockets, good vents, expanding cuffs etc. Their 'Master' range is even better, but the price is somewhat over the top unless you live in bike gear 24/7.

It's interesting seeing your comments Adam, I think you are the first person I've known with a less than 100% positive view of the kit. It's good to see some balance here 
I think its the after care that impressed me about Rukka as much as anything else. HG is good kit, I've bought a number of bits and pieces from them in the past and it's all done what I expected of it. I was a little sceptical when I first looked at Rukka, but it's rare to find a company offering such a good warranty and backing it up as they do.
I've had a couple of stupid things fail with mine, couple of the zip tags have broken recently and some of the stitching is coming apart on one of the knees. I dont do as big a mileage as you guys, but I've clocked up over 25k in the jacket so its well worth the cost per use and now I've had occasion to call them, the customer service has been excellent.

They are good, but certainly no better than many other makes.
I don't have the top of the range stuff mind, so I guess that might be better, but looking at it it isn't put together any differently, just offers better protection.

You must go and try some on, my jacket is a size 50 (euro) but I tried on another model of Rukka and I needed a 54 (no not the waist
).

Had my jacket for 11 years now, been all over literally and on the ground a few times!. A bit faded with sunlght , Death vally three times and Nevada desert etc, one of the best things is that the pockets are WATER PROOF!!.
Brought a new Jacket from Infinity at the NEC a couple of years ago end of line for £249, still in the wardrobe as the original is still going strong. (very strong!) if you can hang on do have alook at the NEC the Rukka stand told me to look at Infinity's and I saved a bomb. The only drawer back is they are not so good for very hot climates as there is no venting, but apart from this no probs.

It all depends on which one you go for. Mines not top of the range either, it's one of the (I think they call it) Air Power range, so it has removeable linings, but the outer is made so that it has really good air flow, I've not tried it in Death Valley, but I'd imagine it'd be ok its definately a lot cooler to ride in than anything else I've had.
Plus it's the only textile jacket I've ever tried that gave me the same cocooning feel as a proper leather bike jacket.
you'd need to try a few on.
