I've never seen Stingray leather used before - is this a tribute to Steve Irwin?

That's a very barbed comment.

In general, Held’s higher-end track gloves (Phantom, Titan and the new XR2) use stingray leather in the areas with the highest abrasion resistance. Stingray leather is supposed to be exceptionally abrasion-resistant.

The German brand’s mid-tier gloves downgrade from stingray leather to SuperFabric.

14 years ago paid £199 for the Held Phantom-Tex. The first sports summer glove with a Gore liner. Still have the gloves. Kangaroo, Stingray, carbon etc was part of the package. That is £14.28 a year.
My Held short SRX is the short version of the Pro. Didn’t pay full price, nor for the Pro.
They come in half size, long and short fingers.
I guess you get what you pay for.
BKS made to measure used to make gloves as well (now is contracted out), but people were not prepared to pay almost £400.

I'm not sure that image is correct, that's a Titan RR glove they're showing, the ones we have on offer here due to the XR2 coming out:

We don't sell huge amounts of these gloves, at over £400 they're one of the most expensive on the market, they're also one of the best for sure from a protection stand point. Held are market leaders in the glove category and pretty much have been for the past 10 years or so.. people often jus prefer the Alpinestars logo or buy another brand as there's not many held stockists about... but they're certainly good gloves!

Of course there's always someone who wants "the best of the best" and The Held Titan RR/ new XR2 gloves have to be one of 2 options people choose. I'd say we sell anywhere from 2-5 pairs of these a year which is not many, but not terribel for a £400+ glove which isn't heated!

Which is the other option that people choose when they want “the best of the best”?

Five’s old gloves got mediocre MotoCAP results, but their RFX Race gloves get good reviews from the trackday crowd. Many are CE Level 2. However, I’ve never tried them.

Are the top end gloves still made in Hungary?

I have a pair of held kangaroo leather gloves which cost me £170 seven years ago. They're still in excellent shape and the goretex liner is still serviceable. You get what you pay for. These new ones should last 10 years plus, so looking at the price per year, it's no more than we'd consider paying for a helmet as a rough comparison. Boots are probably the best bang for buck in protection when viewed per year, even good ones like Altberg. Viewed annually, they're not too steep at £300 per decent pair, so I view protection of extremities, including head, feet and hands as areas I don't skimp on after once having an off in cheap gloves which tore through resulting in hand injuries. Held sizing can be a bit odd for finger length so best make sure you get the right ones. For me, short were a little too short and long were a little too long....couldn't find ones that fitted perfectly so opted for the slightly longer fingered ones which haven't been as much of a problem as I anticipated.

I'd say the Five gloves, not one we stock here but I've seen them plenty of times - really nice and fit amazing (for me at least!)

Thanks. It looks like Held makes its Titan and Phantom Pro gloves in Hungary. Presumably, Held makes the rest in China.

@Motocentral Aren’t these the Five gloves chez vous?

They look amazing, and, as I’d expect for the price, they’re CE level 2.
One of our suppliers has just taken Five on, we haven't done them for a couple of years - we should be doing them this year depending on the level of interest we get on them... good gloves, really good gloves they've just never "made it" really in the UK
