I have just had them fitted but they are on all the time, well when the engine is running.

What do the rest of you do? i think i am going to angle them down a bit as not to blind car drivers.

You would normally have them wired to come on with the main beam only (well I have, anyway).

I can't get my head around the regulations - do additional lights like this have to be switched separately to the main beam or is the main beam switch enough?

I can't think of an instance where I'd want the main beam on and the additional lights off (or vice-versa), but I'd be willing to bow to greater experience.

My understanding is that my FF50's are spot lights (effectively 'main beam' lights) and as such are wired to come on with, and compliment, the main beam. Therefore I guess you can have them wired to come on with main beam or switch them independantly.
The end result being that they don't come on with dipped beam and dazzle people.

I have a set of 'running' lights (Micro DE's which are actually fog lights) and these are wired via a switch because being fog lights they need to be switched independantly (how strictly that would be enforced by a rozzer or MOT tester is a moot point :nenau). I have them on all the time.

As I say, that is my understanding - not sure if it's totally correct?

Calling BTBR, calling BTBR...............................

Did you fit them yourself? I`ve got mine coming on with the main beam & my PIAA`s switched. I wouldn`t fancy my FF50`s on all the time as they`re bloody bright!

I didn't fit them myself. What is the point of having the lights though if you only put them on in high beam. Because i am hardly ever able to use high beam.

I've got my FF50's switched and on dip beam. Good to have option to switch off, but left on most of time when riding and very very visable, but not really dazzling. Drivers have stopped any flashing when angled down so main pool of light about 25 foot in front. A quick visual check by standing in front confirms this.

How do i put a switch on them? i have no idea. Also i thought that by having the power draw directly from the battery there was no strain on the rest of the electrics?

Think about it. If your power only ever came from the battery the battery would go flat fairly quickly. The 'strain' is on things like the alternator and the associated wiring that has to find an extra 110 watts of power or nearly 10 amps of current, just for running a pair of extra lights. Add on a few more bits of bling and it soon adds up........

There's plenty of diagrams about on how to wire additional lights on here and ADVRider but perhaps you could find a local GSer who's done this kind of thing before to help you out???
